Story

Life has come full circle for this Northern girl. Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Karina Hunter has lived in several beautiful cities throughout her adult life, including Quebec City, Washington D.C., and Annapolis, Maryland. The last ten years have been split between London, Ontario and Boca Raton, Florida.

Her freelance design consulting business has been influenced by the needs of discerning clients and the distinct characteristics of these cities, as well as the one constant in her life: the need to be near the water, be it river, ocean, or most lately, the lake.

Buying a cottage on Lake Muskoka led to the unexpected desire to find a reason to make a permanent home in this beautiful place. Realizing that Gravenhurst needed a décor store that provided something other than the ordinary, Summer House Interiors was born.

Located on the Muskoka Wharf, Summer House Interiors is a one-stop shopping destination for all your cottage and home décor needs. Karina and her daught, Shalen, spend the off-season searching for quality furniture, lighting, and décor that is both unique and affordable, while providing the personal service and attention to detail that make the process of finishing your cottage a stress-free experience.

Summer House have just completed a great en-suite Bathroom for us. It started out great – Stuart called around and was intent on giving us exactly what we wanted. His guidance throughout has been totally supportive and positive. We were told installation may be as late as May ’23, but there may be a pre-Christmas opportunity. We were keen to have it done, so when a slot before Christmas came we thought very seriously about it. We were replacing a bathroom we had installed some 20+ years ago by a very reputable supplier so expected no problems, and Stuart agreed it was a small job and could be completed a week before Christmas. Well on day 1 we discovered our previous bathroom had not been installed as well as we all thought, and were told Christmas completion was in doubt. We are old enough to have known better!!!! Robert and James who were installing readily agreed to work Christmas week to get it finished and despite a few setbacks not due to Summer House it was finished just as our family arrived for Christmas! I would never do it again at that time of year but Summer House were fantastic. The bathroom is great – We had a walk-in shower and retained the ceramics from the existing sink and toilet and the bathroom cabinet - we like them, they are in perfect order and why not recycle!!! The walls and floor were fully tiled, and a new radiator installed - the finish is fantastic. Robert and James were great – Very tidy, cleaning up each evening, so we could at least reset in the evenings. Wonderful experience despite the stress of being so close to Christmas!!
We had 2 bathrooms upgraded. Stuart came out to give us quotes and ideas. He came up with some radical ideas that we would have never thought of. The designs were excellent and we are very pleased with the finished bathrooms. Our fitter also called Stuart was excellent. He workmanship was great he took great pride in his work. He was reliable and trustworthy going above and beyond. He was the only trades person used and saw the whole project through from start to finish. He nkept us fully informed of the work he was undertaking each day. The only small problem we had was an incident of lack of communication between the fitter and the designers re resources. This was soon rectified. Would recommend Summr House as they completed all the work from start to finish and did not contract the work out to different trades people.
New bathroom fantastic. Our fitter was Rob whose workmanship was second to non. His attention to detail was superb. He was assisted by apprentice Jordon who was a star, a real hard worker and a credit to Summerhouse
We had 2 ensuite bathrooms refurbished by Summer House earlier this year and are very pleased with the results. The work was done to a very high standard and the products supplied good quality. I cant praise the fitters highly enough. They did a great job and were very conscientious in their approach. I would have no hesitation to recommend them.
We have recently had our bathroom completed by Summerhouse to an exceptionally high standard. From our initial meeting with Stuart & Annie, it has been a complete pleasure. They planned & reconfigured our bathroom & we are thrilled to say the least, with the result. Our fitter, Rob, was an absolute joy to have in our home, as was, for a short period of time his apprentice, Jordan. Rob’s workmanship & attention to detail was second to none. He consulted with us on various fittings, & was an absolute gentleman & an asset to Summerhouse. Dust sheets laid daily & no mess. We would have no hesitation in highly recommending Stuart & the team. Would give more than 5 stars if we could!!! Andrew & Deborah Abel
Absolutely love my kitchen & utility. It took months of planning and Stuart demonstrated great patience and understood my needs and budget. It wasn't simply a case of keeping the same layout and replacing units, both my kitchen and utility were completely emptied ready for new flooring before any of the kitchen work was done. Stuart organised the tilers as well as the electrician and plumber. The kitchen fitter Tim made sure that I had a suspended working sink so that I had a very basic kitchen, my range was still in place and the fridge was in the hall and the microwave in the dining room! As with any big job there were hiccups but these were resolved and dealt with and the end result is stunning and practical. All of the people who worked in my house were a pleasure to meet and I have to say a particular thank you to Tim for his endless patience!
Very pleased with our kitchen. The quality is excellent and the fitting including electrics and plumbing and final decoration also excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending Summer House Interiors
The whole team at Summer House were fantastic, from design to implementation. We couldn't be happier with the end result! The tradesmen fitting our new bathrooms, were so trustworthy, friendly and did an amazing job at making our dreams become a reality - couldn't recommend Summer House enough. Thank you guys!
We sought quotes from several companies for our bathroom but Summer House Interiors was the only one which really listened to what we were looking for. We changed the design three times before we settled on the final version and Stuart was very patient, very reassuring that what we wanted was possible and practical, and asked helpful questions to get us to think about about aspects we hadn’t considered. The fitters, Rob and Jordan were a delight to have around and their workmanship was outstanding. We couldn’t be more delighted with the finished product and now feel that we can have people to stay without having to apologise for our bathroom! So glad that we found Summer House and have no hesitation in recommending them.
Excellent company. They have fitted 3 bathrooms for us this year working in difficult conditions due to Covid. The quality is excellent and nothing has been too much trouble.. Special thanks to Stuart, Mark and Julian would definitely recommend them.
