Food quality is alright but not great, however that doesn't matter because the owner is extraordinary rude. I've been here a few times and every single time hes treated my friends and I very poorly, to the point of getting upset at us because his card machine didn't work. As well, vegetarians and vegans should probably just avoid this place; we ordered vegetarian gyoza, but found that it very obviously had meat in it. If the ownership changes, then I might recommend going here. For the time being, however, just go to one of the many other far better food options in the village.
I wish I can give this place no stars... This place is absolutely unsanitary and it failed health inspections on numerous occasions. A friend of mine worked here as well and the things he tell me about this place is absolutely horrific. Here a couple things not exhaustive: - Their soy sauce pot was outdated and had bugs I believe flies in it. Yes, they served this. - They re-use their side dishes - Their rice is super old - They've been scolded for leaving fish out for too long this can actually kill you if it stayed out any longer - They over-charge their food. I added this in because the food they serve isn't actually anything like Korean food. - A friend of mine got food-poisoning from this place. When he complained, they denied everything. We knew the bad food came from this place because that's all he ate that day - Their service is absolute garbage. At least if their service was good, it would give me a reason to see the positive things. But, it's absolute GARBAGE. Honestly, I don't know why they're still in business. I did find out that a lot of first years go there, get burned, and never go again. But, they don't care. They get fresh set of first years every year anyways. I see a lot of Chinese people that go here. They think what they're eating is good. There's waaaaay better food for the same price or cheaper. I've seen this place for the past 8 years and one day, I hope this place closes down so something better could replace its spot. - Edits I see that the owner has replied to my review. In response, I'd like to say that my friend who worked there is not a female and he was not discharged he left on his own and told me that he was being maltreated and was being unfairly cheated out of his rightful tip money... And no, this was a very honest review - check my other ones if unsatisfied. Everything I said is true. There's no reason for me to write these things about a restaurant with the amount of detail I reported unless I was gravely concerned about its sanitary condition and food quality. I've dined here once or twice every year to see if there has been any changes. Unfortunately, there's been none. For those who think their food is good... You have not tried good or even average quality Korean food. I recommend taking one bus ride 99 and go eat at the Kitchen. Its at least better than what you get at Suga. I understand that there are Chinese customers who like Suga - seriously... there is way better Korean food with way better service. Try Robson Street in downtown - if you like Suga food, then you'll be blown out of your mind. Restaurants like these need to go out of business to allow better places to fill their spots. I think they're only in business because they have a fresh set of undergraduate students that come in every year who come to try their food - and most of them leaving very disappointed. It doesn't matter though... I guess it's enough money to keep them in business. To the owners who replied: if you're going to serve bad quality food, at least have better service. Its astonishing how you guys have been able to get away with this for so long. And if you want to report, go right ahead. I am more than willing to sit down with you to explain why my review is justified. But you have to understand that you can't report people's comments - especially if they're true. To make it fair, I will come visit your restaurant again. If nothing has changed, I will keep this review the way it is. But if I see an improvement, I will gladly change or remove this review. Fair enough?
The Korean pork bone soup with potatoes is really good! ! Fired chicken and the tofu soup are highly recommended !Also the BBQ beef is awesome too. WIDE variety of choice. Have visited several times with my friends and literally all the plates we tried were tasty. However Sushi maybe not the best choice here .Overall Great food place on campus.
As soon as you walk in, you will get a rustic vibe like a old Japanese tavern that is barely standing after the first and second world wars. When you get your menu, you wouldn't be surprised to receive a piece of sadly laminated paper that seems more tattered than a pair of thin underwear that a sumo wrestler has worn for his whole life. All story telling aside, the waitress is nice and very responsive. But something isn't quite right. The food was subpar the international food court right below taste better for the same $ and the atmosphere not appetizing. I suspect the problem lies with management. The food I received looked alright but I felt like the chef was trying to rip me off. I ordered the Bibimbap and +$2.5 for some short ribs on it. The meat I received was so little 6 tiny thin strips my pet mouse wouldn't be full from eating it. Food arrived pretty fast ~10 minutes. I was between classes so this was really great. Expensive subpar fast food. At the very end as I paid, the owner gruntled "Debit Card only." I said "Oh, okay" and handed him cash. I didn't receive a receipt. I understand credit transactions cost owners fees ~2.5% per transaction. But not getting a receipt, I wonder if taxes are even paid on my food?
I think it's a waste to give a star to this place. Before I visit this place, I already read some negative reviews below. However, I went here and ordered some food because I do not know about the place before I visit there. Here are my reviews. 1. The rice in sushi is not seasoned. I ordered sushi but the rice in this was 'just rice'. Seasoning is very basic thing when making sushi. This is the first time that I eat sushi with not seasoned rice. 2. A hair and some pieces of plastic was inside the sushi and sashimi. I was very shocked when I saw a hair and chewed some pieces of plastic two times. This place is very poor on the sanitary. When I visited here, the woman who get in and outside to the kitchen did not wear sanitary hat or something. Plus, the menu board was so greasy. When I chewed some plastic stuffs and found a hair in the rice of sushi, it was really GROSS! but I did not go to the restaurant because I think it is time-wasting and better to upload my review on google.
The owner of this place does receive credit card when I am alone. But when I go there with my friend, he refused my credit card, forcing my friend to pay my bill which made me feel embarrassed. I don't think the way he treat his customers is acceptable.
The owner is discriminating me because of my Asian face. After having dinner today, we tried to pay our Foods with credit card; he refused and ask us the use debit or cash. While we were paying by debit card, he said: " That's how we do it in Canada." I responded: " I was half raised in Canada and I do not need u to teach me how to live a life here. " He suddenly started laughing at me and my friends. The worst place ever!!!
Worst sushi I have had in my life. I eat sushi 2-3 times per week and couldn't eat this. Their rice had so much rice vinegar in it that you could smell it from inside the container. It was dry and the raw fish was warm...
Owner has absolutely no manners and he's creepy af. I have no idea why he complains every time I use credit card. Food was okay tho, I just don't like the owner and his service.
I mainly come here for Korean foods. Highly recommend their spicy pork with rice and tofu soup. Usually pay with a debit card and never had any issue with using a credit card.
