Sudbury Arena

Story

The Sudbury Community Arena is a multi-purpose arena in the downtown core of Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. It was built in 1951, on the site of the former Central Public School, at a cost of $700,000. The approval and construction of the arena was overseen by Sudbury Mayor Bill Beaton. It has an ice size of 200' x 85', with a capacity of 4,640 seated, 5,100 standing and is wheelchair accessible.During the summer of 2007, the arena underwent extensive renovations, which added 12 private boxes and a new club seating section, with padded seats and refreshments services along with new washrooms, concession stand and lounge. Seats have been sacrificed to make way for the improvements. Standing room capacity has shrunk from 1,000 to 500, while seating capacity has dropped by 150. The new arena capacity, with standing room patrons, is now 5,100, down from 5,750.It is home to the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. Every time the Wolves score a goal, a taxidermic wolf rolls out on a pulley system to howl at the opposing team's bench. On November 5, 2015, a life size statue of Stompin' Tom Connors was unveiled on the grounds of the arena. The reason behind the statue was due to one of Connors' most famous songs, Sudbury Saturday Night.

Wolves came back to health the Kitchener Rangers in regulation time. Exciting and fun time. Sad to know that the legacy of the Sudbury Arena is going to fade away soon with new planning and proposals for downtown. My daughter hit the ice one time during a practice SPHL and I will never forget her thrill at being on the same ice as the Wolves.
Super small, broken seats, old building and bad acoustics for a rap show. Could hardly hear what the artists were singing and I was in section 15. Very bad set up for artists.
Big arena nice place for being a older building...however parking sucks when the subdury wolves are playing the streets become packed with cars up down them people park where not aloud and yet no tickets are given the park lots fil up very fast peole park blocks away and walk.....the wolves game was great to watch.....
It’s worth to go here for events like ice hockey or basketball. Ticket bookings and check ins are very easy. The building and surrounding area is outdated. This place and the parking around is due for a renovation which I heard is happening soon. Sudbury needs an updated arena for sure.
Have season seats to the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs - love the venue. Loud and lively boards, definitely gives the home team an advantage. I sit right behind the Bulldogs bench just so I can hear our captain Shoresy and his outrageous chirps to the opponents, the game within the game. Excited for the upcoming National Senior Tournament - I’m sure a big deal tournament like this is going to bring in some talent both on and off the ice. I hope Ted Hitchcock brought his f tent.
