Storm Brewing

Story

For over 20 years, brewer James Walton and the Storm Brewing team have been bringing Vancouverites innovative and unpretentious craft beer.

James is hailed as a craft beer pioneer by both media and trade and is a stickler for quality. He has led his team to produce over 250 different “Brainstorm” brews, gaining Storm the reputation of being the most creative and innovative brewery in the country.

Storm Brewing sits at the corner of Commercial Drive and Franklin Street in gritty East Vancouver, and is proud to be Vancouver’s longest running independent craft brewery.

Mission

Beer is about good people and good food. Storm Brewing is available at many fine restaurants and pubs around Vancouver or call the Brewery to arrange for a keg for your next private event.

HURRICANE I.P.A. 7%
“A complex, flavourful and fascinating ale lies just on the edge of being totally out of control.” —Stephan Beaumont, Celebrator Beer News

India Pale Ale dates back to the 1700’s when Britain needed a hearty beer to ship to her troops in India. Because the ships had to cross the equator twice to get there, spoilage was a major problem until some clever brewer realized that both alcohol and hops are natural preservatives. James brews Hurricane I.P.A. in this tradition, The grist is 100% premium 2-row barley malt, copiously hopped with fresh Columbus, Centennial and Willamette. The result is a rich, golden, intense beer with bitterness in perfect balance with residual sweetness.

BLACK PLAGUE STOUT 8%
Derives its name from the historical fact that, at one time in Europe, beer was about the only safe liquid to drink. Black Plague is a sweet oatmeal stout brewed only in small batches to ensure the freshness so paramount to such an intensely roasted beer.

HIGHLAND SCOTTISH ALE 5%
While hugely popular in Scotland, this style of beer escapes most North Americans. This creamy, nutty, malty, smoky, dark ale is true to its origins. Low fermentation temperatures, traditional mild hops for bittering, and even some caramelization as the kettle is being filled.

PRECIPITATION PILSNER 5.5%
A true North German Style Pilsner. Light in body and packed full of Czech Saaz hops. The distinctive Pilsner aroma and dry, refreshing taste make a great accompaniment to a hot Vanouver day.

IMPERIAL FLANDERS RED ALE 11%
The next generation of Storm Brewing's award winning Belgian style sours. This crimson hued monster is aged at least a year in the same oak barrels that produced James` insane 12 year aged Lambic. And like the Lambic this beer is not for the faint of heart. Notes of oak, barnyard and goat complement its high ABV and puckering yet malty sourness.

FRUIT LAMBICS 7% *Sold out Forever*
These authentic Belgian-style ales are intensely sour, dry and complex. The Black Currant lambic has been aged in oak casks for ten years! 15 kg, give or take, of whole unpasteurized fruit is added to each 200 litre oak barrel of fermented beer. The naturally occurring wild yeasts and bacteria cause a second, slow fermentation, breaking down the fruit sugars to total dryness.

Best brewery in the city, hands down. Fight me. The most ingenious and inventive beers you will ever come across crafted and served by some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. I've been in Vancouver for almost 6 years and have always recommended Storm Brewing as a must to any and all visitors.
The most authentic brewer in Vancouver! Their selection is insane! 15 beers on tap today. $7 to sample 7 beers. *Important to note that their license prevents the sale of pints, so the customer is limited to sample sizes. BUT, don’t let that discourage you. It’s an awesome experience.
Interesting flavours - I had the lavender lime pilsner. Was pretty good, a little odd aftertaste. No indoor seating and no flights - but outdoor standing area where you can drink and socialize.

Truly transcendent. Location and building may threaten your body, but the beer will set your spirit free. Splendid flavors, rich, quality beer. Highly recommend the sour, as well as the fruit beers. So so so good. Standing room only so get comfy with your neighbors.

The beers are delicious. So refreshing after a long bike ride. Would definitely come back
