Stimmel's is wholly known in these parts, it seems. Be it for breakfast/elevenses pastries OR classic deli lunch offerings - Stimmel's is THE source for the nearby cognoscenti. My sixth visit under my belt, I feel marginally qualified to write of its essence, its lure, and its endurance in this review. [note: I am an outsider.] Expect a certain Great Lakes ruggedness to the pastries. There is a complete absence of the dainty among the offerings. Instead, earnestly baked and rough-hewn donuts (traditional cakes & risen yeast), eclairs, and fruit-filled turnover & danishes are the order. Form follows function closely, but function certainly takes the lead. The function, you ask? To trigger an eye-rolling, slack-jawed reaction immediately after the first bite into whatever you order. This is no french pâtisserie store, with an eye on presentation foremostly. This is more akin to the Deutsch Bäckerei churning out indestructible werks that eschew the delicate in favor of the Wagnerian robust. Yesterday, I had what I think was a "Bumbleberry Blossom" that was out of this world. The mixed berry filling was sturdy - retaining its individual flavor profiles - while the crust was formed and enveloping - both vessel and essence. The lure of Stimmel's is easy to understand. If "the goods" is what you seek, then pass right on by any of the national corporations in town and get what you deserve. Stimmel's endures not only because they're "the local folks" - but because they provide an unrivaled quality product with exceptional customer service. I've got to wrap this up and head on down to Stimmel's.

They are wonderful to my children! We always go in there for special occasions and sometimes for no reason at all. They always treat my kids special! The owner is super nice! The doughnuts are the best in BG!

Went to the Saturday Farmer's Market. Not as large a selection as Wednesday afternoon, but does have some crafter type booths there(inside on a windy day).
