Stick In The Mud Coffee House
"Coffee and food and drinks and stuff and things...That’s about it. Did we say stuff and things? We have those too. And coffee. And baked goods. So, goods and coffee and beans. And Scorn but only for special orders...In fact I think we might be sold out. Yep, all gone. Sorry.Sometimes when we cook we use Love. But when that runs out we use Lust...Oooooh, Lust! We are pretty liberal with it, actually. It goes well with a bit of Self-hate and potentially some Ridicule.Sooooo, to recap, coffee, food, things, goods stuff, sometimes Scorn or Love but likely Lust, Ridicule and Self hate. Who’s hungry?"

Very nice place for good coffee with sweet. They have inside and outside sitting. One toilet inside next to the cashier. The lady who accept orders is very friendly, nice and make you smile with her energy. We love it to spent morning here. Also very dog friendly.
Great coffee stop when driving through Sooke. The selection was top quality with many tasty pastry options. It looked like the coffee was roasted on site. Highly recommend a stop at The Stick In the Mud.
Great drinks and amazing sandwiches! The chipotle BBQ Turkey sandwich is the best. Staff is extremely welcoming, friendly and energetic. Great spot in Sooke for a quick visit or to sit either inside or on the outdoor patio area.
Amazing sandwiches and the TNT cold drink was incredible! If your in town even for a day, most do place for coffee! Staff were super friendly and also laughing and smiling as well. Thank you!!
Best espresso in Sooke! Accept no substitutes. Lots of house-made tasty treats too. As a bonus, they are dog-friendly.
A unique place Worth a visit. The guy at the counter was so enthusiastic I thought I discovered the ultimate. The food was good but didn't knock my socks off. The carrot cake which they raved about was just pretty goodFood: 4/5
Where the locals go! I've lived here for 7 years now, and was always a little annoyed at some of the nauseating posts in some of the Facebook groups raving about this place, if you liked any place else, you were "anti-small town." The attitude of those type of patrons kept me away from this place. My usual places were closed, and happened to drive by and stop in. Boy am I glad we did! It is a total experience! Unique atmosphere. Beautiful hand drawn mural on the wall! Good food/baking. Huge variety on the menu. Excellent customer service; very friendly staff. Very pricey, but high quality ingredients. Walking with a cane, I found seating a little awkward initially, but staff and guests were quick to arrange things to make me comfortable which I appreciated! Just be aware, if it is very busy, it can be difficult to navigate etc if you have any mobility issues. I now understand the fierce loyalty the locals have to this place! : We will be back:
Oh man, I wrote a big old glowing review, and it didn't get saved, but I loved this place so much that I'm happy to take the time to write it out again. I woke up Sunday morning and just needed to get out of town, see a bit of the world, and just succumbed to my wanderlust. I looked on my phone for a place I could get to and back from in a day, and I landed on Sooke. In 43 years, I haven't made it out to the west coast of Vancouver Island, so I thought, "Today's the day." More to give myself a destination to punch into google Maps than any specific craving, I looked up a coffee shop and thought Stick In The Mud sounded cool. Boy, am I glad I did. That trip was definitely more about the journey than the destination, but after driving all morning, a ferry ride, and another few hours of driving, I couldn't have been happier with my destination. I started my day needing some inspiration, and I found it at Stick In The Mud. The moment I walked through the door, I was greeted by kind and enthusiastic staff who made me feel incredibly welcome. We talked for a while, I told them about my day trip, and we shared some laughs. Thank you, I needed a pick me up and I got it from you all, not just from the coffee. The coffee didn't need to be great, I would have loved the place because of who was there.... but the coffee is STELLAR. I brought home a bag of the espresso roast, and I will definitely have to get more. I may not take two ferries and burn the better part of a tank of gas for a coffee again, but I will definitely be sticking my head in the door every time I head back to the island. Thanks for making my day everyone, all the best!
We are so lucky to have such a first class act in our little town. Coffee and food are deliciously wonderful and made with care. The service is amazing, the staff goes the extra mile to make your experience welcoming and friendly . I was disappointed to read a negative review from someone a few days ago. If you weren't treated with outstanding customer service, maybe think to yourself that the person you referred to may have been having a bad day. You never know what is going on in the lives of these customer service specialists. It's not always easy to shine, but the folks that work there are some of the friendliest staff I know. Perhaps cut them a break. Dont make things harder, negative comments can ruin a person's day. Be nice, not mean. A one time customer does not see what they are made of. Go back, see what this little gem has to offer.
The food and the coffee was okay but nothing stand out, the cafe was let down by the poor service. I came in here the day after Thanksgiving and the barista who served me was about as warm as my iced latte. She seemed fine until I began to speak and then her mood quickly changed, I put this down to me being from abroad as I was nothing but polite to her. The ice queen did not crack a smile throughout our interaction and made it seem like I was inconveniencing her more than anything.
