Story

Steve Kunkel Master Builders began business in 1975 when Steve started building homes. He has personally managed the design and construction of 30 new homes. In 1984 he began remodeling homes and today most of his work is in the area of planning, designing and constructing medium to large residential remodeling projects. Over the years, he has become well known for his personal attention to the details of every aspect of the design and building process. His expertise in working closely with clients, designers and subcontractors makes it rewarding for everyone involved. He has continued to keep abreast of new trends in kitchen and home design, building materials and new energy saving technology. He is a member of the National Association of Home Builders and has completed course work to become a Certified Graduate Remodeler.

In 2003 Steve moved the business into an office in Newport Hills which gave Steve Kunkel Master Builders a lot more visibility to the public. As the demand for remodeling projects in the area increased Steve hired Pat Taylor to be the office manager, Stefan Vatheuer as project manager and Anna Lovell to be the Interior Designer. Steve and his team work together on every project from planning and design all the way through construction. You can find further information about staff members under Our Team. Our office is where many of the client meetings take place and also functions as a showroom to display cabinetry, countertop and flooring materials as well as lighting.

Steve Kunkel Master Builders is well established in the Newport Hills community as a Design/Build Remodeling company that gives support to local schools and the Community Club’s annual 4th of July Picnic.

Steve Kunkel- Owner/President
Steve is a graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started Steve Kunkel Master Builders, Inc. in 1975 and began building homes. In 1984 he began remodeling homes as well and since 1990 most of his work is design/build remodeling projects. Steve works with every client in the beginning phases of the project to help establish objectives, the scope of work and develop design ideas that are functional, beautiful and cost effective.

After hours and on weekends Steve likes to attend classical music concerts, take day hikes in the area and cook pancake breakfasts for his grandchildren.

Anna- Interior Designer
Anna graduated from Bellevue Community College in 1998 with a degree in Interior Design. She worked in the commercial design industry for many years but returned to residential, and has worked for Steve Kunkel Master Builders since 2008. As an interior designer at SKMB Anna meets with clients, and will be part of the planning and design process. She helps clients visualize their project through drawings, material and color selections. When the space planning and design is well under way, Anna will work with our subs and distributors to finalize specifications. Even though most of the planning and design work happens in the beginning of a project Anna will be there throughout the whole process from initial meetings to the punchlist.

When not designing for SKMB, Anna enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as playing soccer. Anna moved to the United States from Sweden in 1991, and always a “Swede” at heart she also stays active in the Swedish community here in Seattle.

Pat- Office Manager
Pat is the glue that holds the office together. As our office manager, she handles payroll, accounts payable, client questions and occasionally she helps out on the jobsite when she is needed. She is our “go to” girl; if you need something solved or done, Pat’s can do attitude and efficiency makes it happen. She is also the friendly voice that answers the phone in the office.

Pat grew up all over the U.S. as a military kid. She moved into the Seattle area in 1977. She is a busy mom with two teenagers, enjoys traveling and loves it when motocross season comes around in the spring. She also enjoys quilting, which she is trying to find more time to do.

“I enjoy getting to know the clients. The relationships we build give our clients someone they can call about their project or voice their concerns. Having been through a remodel on my own home, I feel I can relate to what they are going through as well.”
