ER has Horrible ability to prioritize and see patients. Waited well over 4 hours in the waiting room to be seen and somehow priority kept getting bumped, but they couldn’t explain it. Didn’t even get to the back until well after four hours. Went in with really bad cramping early in my pregnancy to be seen, and every person that walked in after us was seen in front of me. Bad cramping is something they tell u to be seen for. It was odd and bizarre. A very weird and terrible experience. I’ve never had an experience like this. Saw multiple other people go complain as well so it wasn’t just me. And I understand a busy ER with limited beds has challenges. They have this odd sign saying you can go to see the OB only if you are 16 weeks pregnant. At an ER?! Which made me ask them, if I would be treated as a priority that is below all others, and because I’m not quite 16 weeks so I don’t get to see the OB, what did I even come here for? This is so odd. It really is like they have no system to treat a woman that is pregnant with pregnancy complications that is below 16 weeks. Which is a disgrace to the medical system. It really seems The treatment of pregnant women has gone so far down, now even in the hospital system. Which is just sad and odd.. Really horrible and odd experience here. Definitely reaching out to the patient advocate.
If you're looking for a job here, look elsewhere. I worked here for a year in Security and left after a coworker was allowed to openly retaliate against me for the majority of that year. He made a false discriminatory complaint against me to my Director, as well as openly slandering my name to other staff. The Director pulled me into his office and asked if I had said what I had been accused of. The accusation was vulgar and if it had actually been true, could have gotten me terminated immediately. I denied the accusation and instead of the Director looking further into the issue, his response was, "Well, if you did say it, just don't say it again." Between the Director and the Supervisor, they couldn't have cared less that they not only had an employee openly discriminating against myself and others, but that employee was also carrying a concealed firearm in his bulletproof vest. When I did put in my two weeks notice, I spoke to the Director and told him that I had been offered an old position back and had decided to take it. The Director, attempting to make himself sound important, stated that he had seen the job listing online and knew that I was going to take it. The job was offered directly over the phone and was never posted online.
Came in on the 12/28 for surgery and ended up having to stay what was suppose to be a few days....well here I am January 2nd and was told last night I was cleared by medical and physical therapy and told this morning I would be going home today and I'm still here been waiting for discharge and just get told I'm not being discharged. I requested to leave and still have been waiting for a half hour or more to even get an answer....my night nurses were the only ones who did proper care for me and the staff hardly have came in during the day definitely would not recommend this hospital.
I would give ZERO stars if that was an option! I waited over 6 hours in the ER waiting room and was never even seen! I watched the room fill up twice and empty in front of me. I was literally having a miscarriage in the waiting room and they did not care. They took back numerous people before me that came in after me and told me I was not as urgent bc I was not at least 16 weeks pregnant. A couple that went back right when I got there came out right before I was leaving and said they sat in the back for 5 hours still waiting on a doctor. Just a ridiculous situation. I literally watched a woman in the bathroom pull the help cord and no one from the staff even helped. Another patient went to check on her. I sat in the waiting room for an entire shift and WAS NEVER SEEN!! I will never go back
I have had three visits with the Saint Joseph Medical System since December 2022. A primary care establishment in Granger, a surgery consultation at the Mishawaka Regional Center, and a surgery at the Regional Center. My experience was very pleasant at both locations. The staff were friendly and shown a care for me and my concerns. The nurses taking care of me before and after my surgery were professional and were clearly confident in their skills and work, which is always very reassuring. No information was left out or brushed over, and my questionsEven silly ones were well answered. Dr Knapps performed my surgery and I am thankful to have a skilled team here to take care of me and other local residents.
My 80 year old mother went into the ER with a stroke. They admitted her. During her first night stay nurse Caroline came in with her meds at 6:oo pm. My mother asked what she was taking and the nurse went off! The nurse proceeded to yell and scream at my mother. My mom wanted to know if she could take her sleeping pill at 9:00 pm since it was too early for her to go to sleep. The nurse was so enraged all of mothers pills were dumped on her bed. The nurse made my mother get up - who is a fall risk from her stroke- so she could look for all the pills that were thrown. My mother took the pills she found and cried the entire night. The night tech came in and told my mom that nurse Carolyn was "having a bad night". I have never heard of such horrible treatment and behavior! Who treats en elderly person this way who just had a stroke?! Adding more stress to the situation was not good for my mom. My mom was told she would leave the hospital with a heart monitor and only the leads were hooked up. I asked to talk to the doctor so I could confirm her treatment and expectations when she left the hospital. No call and even the nurse would not communicate with me. Im 400 miles away and my mom has had a stroke. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone.
Completely less than pleased with the treatment of my son at this establishment today. Will definitely exhaust other efforts before I ever trust his care with these people again. Rude staff, particularly the nurses in triage. 0/10 take your family else where. These people at this hospital are horrible. Lack of communication, rude, disruptive, and uncaring. I went in for a real emergency not someone with out insurance and a doctor like half the others around here. We were sent by our doctor to be seen because we feared our 16 month old had swallowed batteries. He was checked in and then made to sit in the lobby where he continued to scream and cry and go crazy. They never tiaged him and became annoyed with his excessive crying and screaming. The nurses yelled at us from across the room to calm down and running their mouths about his care in front of everyone else and his situation. Which is a HIPPA violation to the full extent and I will be seeking legal advice as far as that goes. In a situation where a child who does not talk has possibly eaten batteries and the parents don't know how long it's been, is an actual emergency and should be treated as such. He should never have been pushed out into the lobby to wait on hundreds of others to be seen first. I am my childs parent and his biggest advocate and I will go rounds with anyone who isn't taking his health seriously. And this hospital did not care for him rather sent security to tell us we were disruptive and if we didn't get it under control we would be asked to leave so we left and found treatment else where who further informed us that the way things were handled at this hospital was unprofessional and he was considered a high risk emergency and should have been cared for immediately no matter what. Shame on you SJRMC you guys should be ashamed of yourselves.
Do not take yourself or your loved one here especially if there is a cancer diagnosis. I had to advocate for my mom to receive basic care. They wanted me to give up on my 48 year old mom and accept hospice. They would not try to treat her even with the oncologist having a targeted treatment for her care. She was unable to make it to that due to the neglect. I overheard the nurse telling the other nurse that my mom coded due to taking her bipap off overnight. The bipap was extremely loud when it was taken off! Where was the nurse? My mom also wrote me letters saying they were mean to her and tried to kill her when I wasn’t around smh. Please do not go here. I’m switching my insurance and going with Beacon for everything now. Also medicaid patients beware, I was treated like garbage while on medicaid but once I had insurance through my job, it was like I was a totally new person
Dr. Alejandra O'Brien completely dismissed the pain my relative was experiencing. She ordered a CT scan, read the results, and said, "There's nothing wrong with you" in an accusing manner. My relative went to her general physician the next day, still in pain, and listened as her doctor said that she did in fact have diverticulitis!! He prescribed multiple medications. What a horrid experience at the ER!
I have to give a 5start to the surgery team . Ct Wach & Jamie Yoder & the Team at po op . They went above & beyond to help my son. For some one who was born at 24 weeks & now 17 has seen hospitals as a scary place. And they truly showed him there are hospitals that have love . Our family can't say thank you enough . What a beautiful blessing to have this for him . So thank you so much for your support and help. Definitely 5.
