The cocktails we took are good and well served but they had no more mussels a starter at 25! and the fried calamari is not terrible on the other hand, bland and not golden enough, it's the place where I prefer them the least... I go back just for cocktailsFood: 3/5
We went on a Monday afternoon, so we assume it wouldn't be too busy. And it was busy around 1pm but shortly after it slowed down. Needless to say the service could improve: a sandwich takes over half hour to make and the senior brunette waitress seemed to be upset she was working today. Apparently this pub is also a micro brewery or something alike because asking if they have a beer they don't seemed to offend the waitress. The one star goes to the hostess greeting us at the front and stepping out when we left on the side to wish us a great day.
*** Wish I had taken a photo before hand to show how pitiful the natchos were. *** I went to this pub yesterdayLabour Day Monday with 2 family members. Went to have the nachos and chicken strips as an early afternoon snack as it opened at 12 noon. I have to say nachos had to be the worst I've ordered in a pub....EVER!!! $26 for chipswhich actually tasted good mind you, tomatoes, onions which we asked NO ONIONS, and miniscule amounts of cheese on them. I mean half my chips I picked up didn't even have anything on them. Loaded in onions. Didn't even get the olives it said came with them. No wonder they put "Extra Cheese" as a topping you can pay $4 extra for. I bet that amount extra wouldn't have even been a good amount to make them tastier. I have to say the chicken strip are tasty. Then you get to wash it down with a ?$9.25 a pint for my beer. 3 people one drink each, nachos and chicken strips..... ?$87.00+ without tip! Last time for this rip off joint. P.S. I notice this pub doesn't have any manager or staff to answer/remark back on people's reviews. Why? Afraid of the truth I'm sure!
Food was decent, but atmosphere was homey and friendly! Appetizers on the table were chicken tenders not worth it, very few, calimari very worth it, and perogies extremely worth it, very generous quantities and delicious. I had the salmon with pasta for a main course and found the salmon perfect but the pasta to be overly buttery and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Shared chowder with a friend and it was a little flavorless compared to chowders at Ferris' Grill and Red Fish Blue Fish. Her seafood pasta was also far better than my own dish - would recommend that over the salmon entree.
Met some friends here for dinner. Made a reservation. Quite a busy place. Good turnover though so people move through. Good food and lively environment. Smaller unusual shaped room but they have accommodated it well and it is an enjoyable place to spend some time. Not too noisy and good room between tables.
E L D E R F L O W E R  EM P R E S S  G & T Sheringham Gin with Cucumber G & T Cocktails were heavy on ice and tasted only 1oz. Chicken Burger and Cove burger were delicious. Other 3 tables were getting nachos. Definitely will be back again to try the nachos.
Just happened to be in the neighbourhood today because I’ve moved close to the neighborhood. Saw the Smugglers Cove pub sign and decided to stop for lunch. I ordered the smugglers burger with cheddar and mushrooms, fries and gravy. The fries just so happened to be hand cut. OMG it was delicious. A hand made patty with lettuce, red onion, pickle and tomato. Cheddar and mushrooms were an addition. If you’re looking for a great meal come and see them here in Cadboro Bay Victoria. Cheers Dino
