Smokehouse
"Specialising in Cajun-inspired slow-cooked smoked dishes, there are options for carnivores and vegetarian alike.Southern classics are given a sophisticated make-over in dishes like their hushpuppies with smoked jalapeno and ginger honey, or their popular blackened red snapper served with salsa verde, sweet potato infused polenta frites, seasonal vegetables and grilled avocado.Smokehouse favourites are represented with a smoked pork belly starter, beer brined & applewood smoked ribs, and cherrywood-smoked chicken legs. Thoughtful dressings such as their smoked peach and white balsamic vinaigrette complete the delicious salads, or for something more substantial try the smoked vegetable ratatouille."

The Smokehouse was great. The hush puppies were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, the jalapeno & ginger honey was not too sweet; the pork belly was so tender you could cut it with a fork the pickled melon that accompanied it was to die for. The rack of ribs was smoked perfectly not overly smoky and the house made bbq sauce balanced the ribs. The real stars of the night were the side dishes: smoked cheddar and sweet potato gratin, sauteed spinach and sweet corn succotash, and charred artichoke hearts, I could make a meal of just those. The service was efficient and friendly, Carman was awesome. All five people in our party were raving about their meals. We will be back for sure.
Came with a group of 4 on a Friday to this joint. We read the reviews beforehand and were ready to wait. And wait we did. BUT they were running a special - $25 for a plate of wings & ribs AND a jug of beer. A REAL jug, not a pony...of ANY beer they had on tap which were all CRAFT beers. THAT’S a steal. So we happily drank and chatted while we waited for our food. On the beer side, we tried the Lighthouse Coffee Lager which was pretty tasty. My friend had a few Caesars and said they were really good. A breakdown of the food: Our table had the Cajun seared tuna loin which was unexpectedly beautifully presented for a smokehouse and fairly substantial in size. Our friend said it was good but I didn’t try any myself. We also had the Nachos with Brisket added. Pretty good also and I love that they actually took the time to layer the ingredients so you don’t just get all the toppings at the top and then plain chips at the bottom. This shows real care in the food. Lastly, the wings and ribs. They were tender but crisp-dry. A bit overdone for my tastes but if you like your wings/ribs extra well done, this place is for you. They were tasty though and the portion was big. So for $25, can’t complain. Service was friendly. It was busy but our server checked on us multiple times and made sure we had enough water/drinks. I can see why others have reviewed it as they did bc we did wait a while for food but I’d come back. Then again, I’m not the hangry type.
We pulled in about 45 minutes before they closed, and they graciously invited us to their full menu with exceptional service. The pork belly was decadent, beautifully plated, and with flavours that complimented the succulent meat! The hickory smoked salt and pepper wings were also very tasty, with a tzatziki dipping sauce pulling it all together!
The food was really good but the service was lousy. The servers were not attentive. And the dishes of finished meals remained at most tables much too long. The atmosphere is great. It is a really comfortable place. The menu has enough variety for everyone without being overwhelming.
We went tonight for dinner. I brought myself and my 2 teens. It was amazing! I had the steak and it was cooked perfectly and paired with artichokes and asparagus and the most amazing mac and cheese. My son had the rack of ribs and they were great as well. He couldn't even finish everything! Daughter had the house pork chuck burger and loved it! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. It was clean and cosy and had fernie beers on tap! We will definitely go back!
Staff seems more interested in turning us away than accommodating us at their open tables. Challenging when on a Saturday night they cannot handle full capacity, even in small places, as your limited seating you should be designed to accommodate. Years in hospitality myself isn’t it “old fashion”’ to tell your patrons “we’re too busy cause it’s Saturday night?” Maybe time to catch up with the times. we could have been patient but instead were told we could sit, have a drink, but would have to wait to order after their other reservations showed up in 15 minutes. Then we could order after they ordered? Strange practice. Didn’t stay to see how that works.
Hated it. If there’s a zero i would rate zero. Customer service was terrible. We came in the waitress hands the menu to us and directed us to the table. After 30 mins no one even offered water or drinks. We approached another waitress at the bar. Said she will be coming to attend to us then after 15mins we are still staring at the menu. They cleared the table across us and get more orders from others who are already eating but never attended to us. There were only 4 tables in and 2 outside with customers. Dont put more tables if you cant serve them well. Horrible experience. Never ever coming back.
My mom and dad took me and my son here for my birthday .. The reviews drew us in and we had not been here before .. We are long time Fernie residents .. I must say we were a bit disappointed . With the menu being very small and limited we expected great quality and everything available .. We were wrong .. No hush puppies which I was looking forward to .. Then no macaroni for the mac and cheese .. Like cmon no macaroni with two fully stocked grocery stores in town ?? The food was not overly spectacular but it was good .. Ribs come right off the bone and were great .. Will we come back ? hmm Probably not in the near future .. The server was fantastic though .. Wish I could remember his name ..
Since its opening last summer, I have had the enjoyment of eating at the Smokehouse on several trips thru Fernie. Each time better than the last as they find their way! Great BBQ with great service, clean and enjoyable ambience! A must eat, whether you are just passing thru or staying for a few days!
Everything was delicious, if not just a tad overdone with the “smoky” flavour I know it’s a smokehouse. What I was truly impressed with was the vegetarian options. Even though this is a smokehouse, they offer numerous vegetarian options that taste just as good, if not better, than the meat options. I tried the Ribs, Roasted Veg Ratatouille pretty spicy, smoked Tofu, halloumi burger, and Caesar salad. All were great, but the winner was definitely the Halloumi burger! Awesome new restaurant in Fernie with lots of choice. Check it out!
