Notre Dame office,...I am best friend and caregiver to a disabled 93 year old lady with end stage copd , on o2 , 24/7,uses walker,halls bottles of o2,she ways 75 pounds . Was told by rather snotty staff person that I had to take her to the doctors and get medical report done as she basicly grabbed /snatched the blue dsb parking sign from my hand. I requested a renewal form , suggesting that end stage copd is not curable , not reversible, neither is her aging,...and that as she is permanently dsb,, ... can she just sign the form and return it,...as getting a MD appt is a month long process and as a partially dsb senior myself, very hard on her and me, gettingher to her MD.. As she turned away, clerk with attitude, just said no,..she has to have a medical report.. NOTE: to quote SMD parking permit site...." (In some cases, certification from your doctor or therapist may be required.) " ,.....This is NOT TRUE...Based on SMD staff,.apparently in ALL cases MD verification is required. What a snotty uncaring group of bureaucrats. For first time in years , I did not buy an SMD lottery ticket this year,....and never will,...to pay salaries for this duo. As I have been unable to get her down to MD office,( as she is almost bed ridden) I am temporarily parking in dsb spots without a tag,......so far ,not towed yet......maybe I will just take my chances. I regret having taken the tag in,...wish I had just kept it and used it as is. Now I understand why I see expired tags being used. I regret being such a "goody two shoes" and trying to do the right thing. I can understand the need for a signature , or a home drop by by SMD, or phone verification,...but having to prove that a 93 yr old \COPD patient is "still" dsb,...just plain stupid. There are other ways to verify i.d., and if person still alive. but these 2 bureaucrats, have no empathy for that,nor the clients they deal with,.. and do not wish to discuss it.
