The hotel was right next to Perfect Games in a very nice, growing part of Ames. The receptionist I checked in was personable and friendly. My stay was brief but my single-bed room was clean and comfortable. The rooms offer a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker and television with plenty of channels. I had to skip out on breakfast but it was complimentary. Recommended.

Horrible Stay Room Smelled Like Sewer Water , Loud Fans Blowing In Lobby Trying to dry lobby from sewer leak room smelled just like sewer water Then when I asked to change rooms the manager lied and said there were no more rooms even though I clearly looked online and the choice hotels app and there where more rooms available our room also had no microwave!!!! Manager very rude and unfair liar called police all because I asked for new room after that I was done I asked for a refund she had to check the room (even though we never even took our shoes off) and then refunded my 250$ cash deposit as well would not recommend this hotel . I later visited the Best Western In Ames Iowa Located on University Blvd Great stay at that hotel.

The hotel itself was very nice. It was clean and had a decent breakfast. However the manager Bonnie Alley is incompetent, rude, and most of all a liar. I brought over 60 people to the hotel she manages and we were treated like absolute garbage. To begin the issue when I booked a 30 room block they did not instruct me that I needed to have my guests press "2" to go directly to the Ames hotel instead of the headquarters where guests would not be given the "block rate". To top things off the incompetent Bonnie did not get my email correct so I was never sent a confirmation email. Approximately 3 weeks before the wedding I was called by Bonnie saying only 2 rooms had been filled and that if I didn't fill the rest of my block I would be personally charged for all the rooms and she suggested that I reduced my block. I was very confused why no one has been put into the block as I knew of at least 10 people in my immediate family who had booked there not to mention many others whom I had not spoken with yet. That is when she informed me that the guest should be pressing "2" when they called---would have been nice to know. I proceed to reduce my block to 10 and then tell her the names of the people so they can receive the discount. She then sends me a confirmation email--after I give her the correct address-- and in it states that as long as I fill my block my husband and I would receive our room complimentary. The day after we stay there I see my card is charged for 268 dollars from the Sleep Inn. Before I left the hotel the front desk worker assured me my card wouldn't be charged. My mom went back into the hotel one week later and expressed her frustration to Bonnie saying this is not right and we brought a lot of business to this hotel and she proceeds to explain that you actually have to have 15 rooms in your block to get a complimentary room and we'd have to wait until Monday in order to see if people's credit cards would go through to see if she could give us the free room. Completely contradictory of the previous email she sent me. Another issue we encountered was that at the hotel they were advertising rooms for 93 dollars a night. My block rate was 119 dollars and some guests were charged more than that because they booked through the headquarters due to lack of instruction by Bonnie and her staff. When confronted by this she was nothing but rude and did not listen to a word we had to say. Her customer service skills are the worst I have ever encountered. I called her on the phone after my mom talked to her and because I was so upset with her she was magically able to comp me one night and let me tell you she was less than professional about it. I am not looking for free hand outs but when I bring over 60 people to your hotel for my wedding you'd think they would show some common courtesy and basic customer service. I am absolutely appalled by her and the management skills. It is very unfortunate that a nice hotel is being run by someone so rude and incompetent because they will lose a lot of business due to her attitude alone. Please fill our your surveys guests. I see that this is not the first post made on here complaining about Bonnie Alley.

Bonnie & her staff went above & beyond to make us feel welcome & at home! So friendly & accomadating it starts with Bonnie! She's the best & her staff is just as friendly & willing to help & visit & ready to share a smile😀. Clean & relaxing place breakfast was good also! Loved the walk in shower. Walking distance to Perfect Games & mini golf for families. Everything was clean & comfortable.

One star is too high of a rating for my experience with my family. Initially we rented one room for two nights, we were in Iowa for a volleyball tournament and our team lost so we decided to cancel the second night. We were told that because we gave them a 24 hour notice we would not be charged for the second night and the money would be refunded. After the first night we left to go home but about half an hour down the road we checked our bank, we soon discovered that an extra $300 had been charged from Sleep Inn. We called the Inn and we told them we need to speak to their manager and that we will be back in about half an hour, when we got back the manager was nowhere to be found and we were told she should be back by noon because there were other issues at some other hotels she managed. This happened around 9 in the morning, because the money was still charged for the second night we checked back in to the inn. By around 6 or 7 in the afternoon the manager Bonnie Alley had come, from a "funeral', even though the receptionist that spoke to her directly said she for sure was at another hotel. While talking to her she became very defensive and rude, we on the other hand were calm and all we asked for was an email from Bonnie saying that she accidentally charged us an extra $300, but she became more defensive and avoiding the topic. Eventually she said the funds will be returned. On the next morning we still did not have our money and the manager did not email us, to our knowledge. We were getting ready to check out and go to the police when, the elevator door opened two police officers and Bonnie came out and caused a scene in front of her other guests. She accused us of being disruptive and disrespectful. This was ironic because there were about 30 guests that were very loud, running up and down the halls at 10:30 and yelling. After a lengthy discussion we discovered that she had emailed us a letter very early in the morning piled under the spam of the day. The letter showed said that within 5-7 days $199.90 would be returned, we sent an email back because there was another $99.95 unaccounted for, it has been more than 24 hours with no reply even though she claimed that she would stay in contact with us and would reply quickly to any issues we still had. In summary Bonnie Alley is a despicable person that is a liar and a fraud and I dread the day that I ever see her again. Apart from Bonnie the hotel was nice, clean and comfy, the other staff, I imagine, would be nice and they were until Bonnie arrived but then they were also disrespectful and very hostile even when it was completely uncalled for. I will never go another Sleep Inn, it is a shame that Bonnie had to ruin the experience of a nice hotel. At 15 years old I feel that I could have managed the situation far more effectively than Bonnie.
