I thought Skagit was a trustworthy local bank, better than the big national banks, but I was wrong. My partner had a bill come in when we were overseas and her account over drafted. We didn’t know this, as Skagit doesn’t have a practice of calling or notifying about overdrafts. When she checked her balance at an ATM after we arrived back in the USA, it said her account balance was ($233). We assumed that meant she had money in her account, so she spent it on some bills. Within a few days, that amount went up to over $500. She thought someone had deposited money into her account or there was some miracle!
When we went to the bank to see what was going on, we found out Skagit had charged her about 15 different overdraft fees and that her account was in a negative balance. Apparently, Skagit shows a negative balance the same way they show a positive balance. They just put the number in brackets, like this (233), which means the account is in the negative. Neither we nor anyone else we talked to has ever heard of this practice! Even some customer service agents at Skagit state bank were surprised, and only the managers could explain the practice. After a google search I found that banks show a negative account on ATM receipts with a negative symbol. Her receipt should have said “account balance: -$233”.
We talked with management and although they took off some fees, she still has to pay hundreds in fees. I am confident that Skagit is doing this intentionally to make money off people. Stay away from Skagit State bank. Clearly, they don’t have qualms about stealing from hard working people in this valley

Horrible! We had taken a loan out with skagit bank when we bought a brand new car when our car got totaled our insurance sent skagit a check for the car and than GAP sent them the remaining money owed to them. Even after they had received all the payments they still continued taking money out of our account for a car that we didn't have any longer. My husband called the bank and told them that they took money out even after gap payed the rest off, skagit denied thanking anything out. We had to meet up with our Wellsfargo bank and they had to contact skagit to confront them, once again skagit denied taking anything out. We had printed out proof of the transaction etc. eventually they called back and apologized told us they are sending a check out on Friday a week later still no check we called and they stated it was sent out. I called again and they said they will call me right back in a couple of minutes. An hour later still no call. I am not impressed with this bank.
