We are one of the original roadside diners still around that dotted the Grand River Road.
Grand River Road was the main highway between Lansing and Detroit from the early 1920s until highway 96 was completed in the early 60s. The location served as a gas station diner from the 30's through the 50's. The location never offered automotive repair, just great food for hungry travelers over the last 80 years. In it's heyday, Webberville, the tiny village east of Lansing boasted 7 or 8 gas stations in less than a half-mile. Many locals remember taking high school sweethearts on dates to the diner in the early 40s. The gas pumps were removed in the mid 50's and the underground tanks were removed in the late 70's. The original underground tanks vent mast is still attached to the west side of the restaurant today. The Sinclair grill was called the Sunset Grill from the late 40's to the early 60s. It became the Round Table restaurant until the early 80s. The restaurant was closed when the owners passed away and remained closed for many years until the early 90's. The restaurant was reopened in 1992 as a breakfast, lunch diner. Economics have been tough over the last 80 years but the gas station diner was built out of concrete block and has structurally weathered the years very well. The current owners purchased the building and land and completed a 7 month renovation which included attempting to return the little restaurant to it's former road stop glory.
