I have been to this Japanese restaurant for lunch and dinner. My first experience, for their lunchbox, was good. Compared to some other Japanese restaurants on the W41 Avenue, the quality for the lunch sets were fine and you can feel satisfied with the quantity as well. The restaurant is not owned and operated by Japanese but the ambient is nice and spacious. For the second time I visited for dinner a week ago, it was unfortunately a bit disappointing, especially the Oyakodon. I had over 50 times of Oyakodon in the past and I am sure they didn’t cook it right. Even it didn’t look similar to the normal Oyakodon. The “Oyakodon” they cooked was like fried eggs with chicken fillets. If you look at the picture I took and compare to the Google search results on Oyakodon, you will understand what I mean. This got two stars deducted. For the salmon soup with tofu and veggies, it was not authentic as well. I felt that they just put all the ingredients and cooked in the chicken broth together. Another star deducted. I looked at the other tables. Sashimi boat and tempura looked fine. If you go there for dinner I would recommend you not to order the rice bowls don and the soup. Their service was ok. I sincerely hope the owner and chef could take it seriously on those dishes I mentioned and I will be happy to see if they can rectify the issue.
Amazing restaurant!!! Wei Wei is the best waiter of all time!!!! Food was seriously fresh and flavourful! They have little hand washing stations and really cute Totoro pictures in the bathroom. If you are in kerrisdale you HAVE TO check out this amazing gem of a restaurant!
Best sushi roll dish I ever had. The family dish has four type sushi roll: mango, smoke salmon, avocado, and Unagi. It looks colourful and tastes delicious. All ingredients are very fresh. I will definitely recommend it.
I was craving tonkatsu and curry and really enjoyed it here for dinner. Savory with the crispy fried pork, greens and pickles with the rice. It hit the spot for sure!! I also highly recommend the spicy salmon/tuna and chopped scallop cones as they are very good although eaten too quickly to take a photo :Recommended dishesSpicy Tuna
Upscale Japanese restaurant in the Kerrisdale community. It is pricey compared to other Japanese restaurants nearby. The food is pretty good, though. The Kimchi hotpot is a creative dish and yummy Food: 5/5
In a town with so many Japanese restaurants, I think Shota tries to cater to a slightly fancier crowd. The decor and prices are just a half notch up. Food is good, but par for the course in this competitive town.Food: 4/5
The food we ordered are feast to the eyes and deliciously tasty. I always try the Ebi sunomono at all Japanese restaurants and and it exceeded my expectations. The prawn tempura is crunchily right and the sauce is well blended to my taste. My hubby ordered Katsu-don and it came with miso soup and salad with the best tasting dressing. Now, their Mango sushi roll is refreshingly delicious! Shota Sushi & Grill is a hidden gem tucked on the side of Yew. You gotta try.
Nice service friendly staff. The Sushi and food are fresh and I forget to take photo of the Fried Rice.
Our first time here...it had tables a good distance apart and good service. The food was fresh, tasty and in good size portions. The only complaints are that the menu didn’t have combo sets and more entree choices; there were no descriptions for what was in the rolls; and, overall, it was too pricy. The saving grace was, for spending $50 minimum, we got a free Kerrisdale roll which we had to ask for.
Great place to grab from light snacks to a full meal with friends and family. Sashimi was cut by a Japanese chef and it was perfect. Staffs are nice and well trained. The place is newly renovated to a more modern look and very clean. They had big tables to sit all 9 of us together. Food was great and I really liked their flamed sushi and donburi. Definitely coming back again.
