Really enjoyed this spot! We ate at their other restaurant, Block Kitchen a few nights ago and that was so good we had to try this place. Everything we had was so good. Excellent service also! The oysters were fresh, lively sauce. We had the grilled scallop - I could've eaten several. Same with the rib eye skewer. Sushi rolls were tasty too. Lots of options for vegetarians and vegans too.
This was a hidden gem for great vegan friendly dinner, we almost got everything from the menu. We had a vegan friend with us and the staff was really mindful in accommodating them. The ambiance is great and they have music nights in weekends. The calamari is something I would go back and eat again and again. The staff is great at suggesting option may it be for cocktails or on the menu. Totally worth going back there.
Decided to check out this place as my wife saw a post of their Hoke Japanese Mackerel plate. We love this fish. And it was to our expectations. All the dishes were tasty and really fast. Service was excellent. Had to be honest as I was skeptic about the place seeing all waiters were non-Asian but everything worked out perfect and like I said, even exceeded my expectations. For those that want to try the fish, suggest ordering a side of steamed rice as that’s a good pairing.
Really great food, I wasn't super into the Tan Tan ramen which was the special today, it was a bit oily on top, but everything else was super great and delicious, the boys weren't really into seaweed being sprinkled on to everything, but the girls really liked it, so if you don't like seaweed on everything you have to say it in advance! It's even on the french fries which I thought were delicious. The staff are very nice and the restaurant is beautiful.
Very good restaurant! Strongly recommended! If you want Japanese food, or after a freezing morning on the hill and want ramen, this is the right place. Shoku roll is very good, fresh salmon and good match of flavor and texture. Red devil calamari and fried shrimp is good as well. Miso soup on my day is too salty
The place looks amazing! Great atmosphere but it was freezing all of the Guests including us wearing the coats The service was one of a kind, our server was so nice and accommodating. The drink - unique and interesting The food - the sushi was not great, a little dry and plain. The buns- heaven! Great for the experience but if you are coming to try new taste and dishes, not the place.
Insanely good food! The oysters especially were perfect and so fresh. The prices were great, the portions were filling! We tried one sushi roll and it was a nice sized roll! We also ordered and tried the pork katsu bao buns and they were delicious!! I could have eaten two. They also had a bit of a spicy taste to them. The appetizer we got was tako yaki and that was super tasty! 10/10 service was also excellent! I would definitely come back when I am there again.
Ate there in June twice. Located right in the centre of Banff. Next to the famous Mt Royal Hotel. Great service and good food. Wonderful ambience. Portions are big. Good to share so you can try more dishes.
To be quite frank, seeing as this place is in Banff, I really did not have super high hopes for its authenticity. But to my surprise, they pretty much hit the nail on the head. In regards to aesthetics and service, Shoku provides a pleasant dining experience and almost makes you forget you are in the mountainous town of Banff. After visiting Lake Louise, I was starving so we placed a big order! We ordered the Shoku Bibimpap, Pork Belly Bao, Pork Katus Bao, Korean Fried Chicken, and Takoyaki. From there Izakaya menu, I ordered the Chicken, Beef and Duck Skewers! The Bibimpap was excellent, the veggie fixings were so fresh and the beef was tasty. I really enjoyed both Boa, the steamed bun was done really well. The Takoyaki was super creamy. The KFC was probably my favourite item I ordered, it was SO good!! I also really enjoyed all the skewers, the duck was totally a hit for me! Truthfully, everything we ordered was delicious! However, for the prices, the portions were rather small. In summary, if you’re down in the mountains and craving Asian fusion, Shoku Izakaya should totally do it for you!
What a cool restaurant! We've been here twice now and the service is impeccable. Leanne provided excellent recommendations, from the rolls to the wine. I highly recommend the spicy shrimp roll! And the karaage chicken. We'll definitely be back to Shoku, especially since it's so easily accessible for downtown Banff walking.
