Had a really enjoyable family dinner at Golden Spring! Located in the plaza on Broadway and Nanaimo - there’s a parking lot in front as well as free parking on the residential streets. I made a reservation for 8 over the phone a few days before, and they were very accommodating and gave us a spot inside their private rooms. The food was great and arrived very quickly - so quick that we had to tell them to slow down a little! The restaurant definitely got very busy and it was packed at the end of the night. Servers tried their best to stay attentive. Got some classic Chinese dishes and had plenty of leftovers as well. Everything was cooked to our liking.
Great for groups 8+: large tables , and sectioned rooms for banquets. Generous portions for the set meals dinner for 10 was more than enough for 11-12. The food was good, service excellent, especially if you have someone who speaks Chinese.
Saw the lobster deal in the newspaper. I forgot the exact price but it was slightly under $40 for a 2lb ginger scallion lobster with saang mien on the bottom. There is extra cost to change it to cream sauce. Their cream sauce was mediocre. The lobster was really fresh and sweet. In order to get the lobster deal, you must order dishes costing at least $50. The salted duck egg prawns were really good. The egg tofu dish was just as good as other more expensive restaurants. The salt pepper pork was also done well. This is a very good place for almost close in quality to higher end restaurants without paying so much. You'll be spending about $100 for 4 people for a lobster dinner.
Came on a Saturday for lunch. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all and not many visitors at 11:30am. We ordered the eel rice small size, stir fried beef rice noodle and clams. First off everything was really well priced. This size of noodles for $12.95 is a steal at this day and age. It was on the oily side but there was definitely a bit of wokhei fire flavour to it. It didn't have much beef but I liked the crunch from the bean sprouts. The eel claypot rice small size was cooked really well. The bottom crispy bit was really well done. Crunchy and not chewy. The rice was flavourful. But the eel on top you can't really taste and the chinese sausage that accompanied masked the flavour of the eel. Would recommend you to try the claypot rice but not the eel claypot rice. The clams again for the price was really worth it. Not overly salty. Each clam had meat in it and it was very meaty. Of the ones I had, I didn't get any with sand which is always a good thing. The service was really friendly. They gave us a big bowl of soup on the house and the food came out really fast. I would come back for the other claypot rice and to try their other lunch items because they are well priced. The restaurant itself feels kind of dirty but I mean it's part of the charm of the place.
This place is amazing for the quality and price. Peking duck, lobster rice and 7 other dishes, only for just over $300. Fed 10 people. Highlights were "wind sand chicken wings", Peking duck, lobster rice, and the seafood mixed veggies stir fry. Staff were nice but they were pretty busy so service was slightly slow at start. Once the food was ordered it all came really quickly.
A small nook in the cranny type of place but don't let that fool you. The place has good food and service well worth multiple visits.Food: 5/5
Great take out Chinese food for Father's day! I actually ordered from this restaurant by accident to another place close by, but I'm glad I did. Nice and crispy veggie chow mein & spicy fried tofu. Nicely sauteed beans. The only thing is the noodles were a bit too salty, as they probably didn't stir it up evenly. But they were quite busy on that day so no biggie.
Easy to book but food is rather mediocre here. Sweet and sour pork was not crunchy and you can taste the meat is mostly fat. The gailan vegetable dish you can taste the alcohol, has not been cooked off. Then the lamb hot pot the meat was too chewy and not cooked enough time. The reason for the 3 star was that service was still acceptable and they accept credit card payment.
They were so busy when I visited it was afternoon. only one staff at that time. little bit took time to ordered the dishes. Food was good.
I am still so full of from all the great food I had at Golden Spring Restaurant that I can't focus to write about the awesome time I had. My Cantonese is non existent so I can't even explain the dishes that I tried. All I can say for this restaurant it is a Authentic Chinese restaurant that serves Authentic delicious Chinese food in a creative Chinese surroundings. The staff was super friendly and professional serving in a family style manner with courtesy and grace, the food was presented and cleared without any distractions. If you want to be treated to authentic Cantonese and Mandarin dishes and be in surroundings that add to your experience, Golden Spring is the restaurant you want to try. Remember to pace your self and leave space for dessert.
