It was as expected from a cinema. Weather controlled hall plunged in darkness, comfy chairs, random tweens giggling behind me. My friend and I saw The Black Panther and it was amazing on the big screen. I loved the self ticketing also cos it meant we didn't have to interact with anyone.
With many different theater rooms comes many different experiences. This theater offers a range of seating setups, 3D, 4DX, and also a sizeable arcade with some of the classics inclusive of air hockey and skee ball. One of the notable theater experiences that is offered at Chinook Center is the 4DX experience. In these rooms there are massive fans with intense power that blow wind during scenes that are fast moving or include flying animations, drops, etc. This is enhanced by the incredible motion that comes from the rumble seats. They move rather abruptly so make sure everything is secure at all times. In these seats you will find yourself raised above the ground as these things shake rather violently which if I might add is quite honestly the best part. Inside these rooms during a water based scene or where there is spraying being animated on screen, the water jets activate so you can experience that feeling. Everything about that experience was awesome and I can't wait to see what else they add to enhance the movie experience and make it more immersive. One thing I love most that makes the theater so great is the fact they offer layered butter. Having to pump your own with no extra cost is cool, however I love having this service as it makes it easier to get to the seat and prevents soggy popcorn/butter clumps. Enjoy your film!
The seats are good and a very large selection of food and games for you. You don't have to be bored if you're early.
Went to see Avatar in the 4D theater. It was a great experience. Loved the movie, the effects of the wind and the rain were fantastic! I did find the movement in the chairs was a little much at times, but it was still a great experience. The theater we were in was fairly clean upon arrival. The lobby was not so clean.
A below average theatre compared to the multitude of newer, cleaner theatres that are around nowadays. This one is darker, older, not as well maintained, and the overall movie-going experience is just not as great. The design of the box office area is old school and has a certain charm to it, but much of the area is unused/outdated, which makes it less inviting as a customer. The place needs a good redesign or renovation. The auditoriums are older as well, so you’ll have the old folding chair rows which are subject to kicks from the people behind you. The screens are fine but still not up to par when you can get a better viewing experience for the same price elsewhere. The popcorn is good, and the washrooms are also decently clean. Still, this is a passable theatre location but definitely not a great one.
They lock the doors in the evening while movies are still showing so you have to wait until someone randomly opens the door on their way out. Seats are uncomfortable. The system for booking tickets online is poorly designed and a pain to use and charges an online booking fee for some reason? Honestly this theatre is never my first choice, I only end up here when there's a movie Landmark doesn't have. The only saving grace is that the younger staff here are usually pretty nice.
As I'm crutches right now I was more aware of the accessibility of the building, and it's pretty good. Concession moved fairly quick. Variety of theatre styles. We chose avatar in 4dx which I do not recommend at all unless you feel like being shaking violently for three hours, no other major 4 d things we experienced for fragrance, lightning, etc, just one puff of smoke and whiplash lol. Unfortunately the bathrooms here are disgusting, despite them having staff working on cleaning it, it's just a plumbing thing in an old building I think. And it is outside the ticket checkers so if they have switched and don't remember you and you don't have your ticket it can be an inconvenience.
I don't understand how Landmark is not crushing this chain. Seats are adequate at best. Screen 6 I was just at has a freaking hole in the middle. When I can get refills and freestyle coke and recliner seats and not broken screens at Landmark I only ever come here if they are the only option for a film.
This theater is fast becoming my favorite theater. The seats are good, and the best part about it is that it would stage international films from time to time, allowing oversea audiences to watch homeland movies on big screen. I watched 4? Hong Kong movies this year alone.
This theatre is disappointing now. The chairs all uncomfortable and clapped out. They desperately need replaced. The escalator has been out of service for I don’t know how many years now. We’ve been driving way over to crowfoot where they have comfortable seating. And University district has great seats too. Chinook needs a Reno before we will come back again.
