Everything was very good. Fish and chips were delicious. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Fries/chips were amazing. Crab cake was very fresh, soft, and yummy. I've had better clam chowder but it wasn't bad. Coffee was hot and nice. Had a good selection of beers. I'd definitely come back when I'm in town again.
Had this place on my radar for years before finally checking it out. Not sure why I waited so long, it's awesome! The food was outstanding ordered crab legs and fish & chips. The service was great as well. I was super impressed by how attentive, helpful and friendly our server was, juggling us dining in with a flurry of takeout orders!
Amazing food from start to finish. The Calamari was delicious, the ceaser salad was good, the gravy was good and the pepper shrimp pasta was delicious and then of course the dessert!!! Sooooo good!! And then the service was so on point!! We were very pleasantly surprised and will definitely return. This place is above and beyond!
Firstly, hats off to the hardworking people in hospitality. This pandemic has turned this sector completely sideways, upside down and now throwing everyone upright again with almost no consideration. I appreciate the owners here and their resourcefulness pulling in family members to get the job done - thank-you. This was our first choice to bring our parents for an authentic east-coast, fish & chip dinner! As new residents of Cochrane, we carefully chose a spot we knew they'd love -- and we chose correctly. Thankfully getting the last 'special' Fish Tacos -- YUM! the entire enjoyed each of their choices down to the last bite. If you're reading this looking for other's experiences before choosing, look no further and call to reserve. It'll be busy. Great job Schooners On First! This won't be our last visit.
Had the halibut and fries. Everything was exactly like I expected. Fish was crisp on the outside and not at all greasy, the fish itself was very flaky and moist. Fries were very good as well. Fish and chips done just about perfect. Tarter sauce was the only thing that wasn't amazing. They need to tweak the Tarter sauce and bring more to the table with your order. Otherwise service and food was on point.
Have been hearing good things about Schooner's so took a drive in to find out if it lived up to all the hype. Sadly, it did not. The staff were extremely nice and very pleasant. Quick to greet and were attentive. We ordered - Halibut and chips, chicken strips, calamari and the chowder soup. HALIBUT had a nice light batter and was cooked perfectly. The highlight of our meal! CHIPS were very good. For the 2020 award winning fries it didn't live up to that. CHICKEN was bland. Reminds me of A&W strips, except not as salty. TARTAR SAUCE was ok. Strong mustard flavor and not tangy. CALAMARI nice size rings and decent flavor. Not crispy at all. I wonder if they would have been crispy had we dined in. TZATZIKI was flavorless and runny. CHOWDER SOUP was lacking in flavor and substance. All potato with a mediocre amount of clams. No carrots or celery. Overall, it was not worth the drive. Also, the value for money was not there. The portions were quite small and was overall dissatisfied. Don't think we will go again.
Has been one of our families favourite restaurants for years! Very cozy place to catch a bite in the winter with a great patio space during summer. The halibut is always so fresh and the chips home-cut. Service is always friendly and attentive. Went to Vancouver for fish and chips but it wasn't nearly as good as this little gem in Cochrane.
Just ordered take out. Service was fast, friendly, and COVID safe. We ordered 2-pc halibut, fries and calamari. All was good and fresh, but still not the same as dine in we will be back. Only criticism is that the fries were a tad on the salty side for my tastes but my husband thought it was just right. Also note that restroom was very clean, which always leads me to believe the whole establishment is kept clean.
Amazing food. The clam chowder tastes close to the one I had at PEI. I also ordered the fish and chips, po-boy and chicken fingers for the children. We absolutely loved it. They also gave my kids coloring books to keep them busy during our stay. We will come back to this place!
Shelley and Lorne are absolutely fantastic. We reached out to them to plan a rehearsal dinner and they were ecstatic that we chose their restaurant. Not only did they shut down the restaurant for the rehearsal dinner but they also decorated with our wedding colors. They worked well within our budget and it was beautiful. The food was so fresh and everyone raved about it! So glad we went with them and we will be back many times to enjoy it all again!
