Family owned business located in the St. Lawrence Market. Our goal is to gather the largest selection of local & specialty foods.

Story

Owner Odysseas Gounalakis came to Toronto from Greece in 1982 to study at York University. He found a part-time job in the St. Lawrence Market where he met his future wife Sandra. After many years working at the market the couple decided to open their own business and purchased Scheffler's Deli in 1992.

Over the years Odysseas, falling in love with the market atmosphere and food culture has strived to learn as much about the trade as possible, and has reached many milestones along the way;

-Cheese Fundamentals for Retailers Certificate - Nov. 2006

-Runner-up in Canada's Cheese Merchant Profession National Comepetition - Oct. 2010

-Participated in "Encuentro Internacional de la Cocina del Aceite de Oliva Virgen Extra" (International Meeting-cooking with Olive Oil) - Spain, Feb. 2011

Scheffler's is wonderful! The staff are so helpful! The cheeses and special dried sausages and other cuts are delicious! There are also a variety of appetizers like hot peppers stuffed with feta, Parmesan wrapped with sun-dried tomatoes, olives, unique crackers, dips … num!
An excellent deli overall. One of the best spots to get imported cold cuts like Jamon Serrano and Ibirico Chorizo salami that aren't regularly available elsewhere. Cheese here run on th expensive side, I would check the other vendors before picking something up for a more reasonably priced alternative
Amazing selection and fair prices. Got some really exciting olives and cheese. Friendly and knowledgeable staff too!
Best antipasti selection in St. Lawrence Market! Offers a terrific number of olives of all sorts, roasted peppers with feta marinated in oil, cheese wrapped proscuito and more. Inside you will see a vast selection of cheese and condiments. Tons of options in the the deli case: ham, proscuito and salami.
Amazing and enlightening selection of cheeses and meats - love the olive section. Fair prices and friendly staff.
Their Serrano ham is really good! I find the price very reasonable as well
Scheffler's is my go-to when it comes to Foie Gras, as they have both goose and duck. They normally stock a few brands/varieties ie, Fayard. When I was there today, they had quite a variety. I saw at least 4 brands, and perhaps 10 or more different packages in terms of weight, size, shape, etc. Depending on the brand, you can get it in a can, in a jar, in a plastic container, or vac sealed. They have great cheese, meats, jellies, jams, condiments, sauces, spreads, etc. You can find some great local items here.
I love the collection of products, always something unique and awesome. the conditions are good, and I've always received great service.
This deli has incredible charcuterie and freshly made dips. They have multiple kinds of aged prosciutto that melts in your mouth and is restaurant quality. The dried sausages also come in a variety of flavours. The dips are delicious, especially the artichoke dip.
Scheffler's Delicatessen is one of my very favorite stops at the St. Lawrence Market. I have been a regular for decades. I know everyone there....especially the proprietress, the legendary SANDRA. She is on cash on Saturdays. What a sense of humour! And I am friends with her many children and her husband, too. For holidays and parties its to Scheffler's I go. Their product lines are the finest in the city and the splendid stuffed olives are truly unique. Since I have a grey beard, I can flirt away with the staff and get away with it. If I were twenty-five I would get my cheek slapped by Sandra, for sure! She tells me about the far flung vacations she takes with her two mysterious sisters and I keep on hinting she should take me along as her private secretary. Then Sandra's eyes start popping as she pretends to look scared/ annoyed and screams: SECURITY!! But as I am leaving she always has a kind word for me.....until next time. A truly exceptional retail experience and an endearing Greek family making it all happen. This place is so busy you can be sure the offerings are always super fresh and some of their goods are ulta-gourmet rarities like truffles, and I don't mean the chocolate kind... although their chocolate is very fine, too.
