Funds are LOCKED in & CANNOT be WITHDRAWN.This is NOT an RRSP plan.
This plan is governed by the Saskatchewan Pension Plan (SPP) Act and Regulations. Your contributions CANNOT be withdrawn from the Plan. At retirement, you must convert it to an annuity which only pays a fixed amount until you die thus you may LOSE large amounts of your investment.
If you are looking for the flexibility of an RRSP where you can withdraw your funds at any time then this Saskatchewan Pension Plan (SPP) will NOT be appropriate since you will NOT be able to withdraw your funds whenever you want to.
I think that it is important that people understand that this is NOT an RRSP plan and the money CANNOT be withdrawn whenever you want to. This is why I am writing this review. I hope that it helps other people and prevents them from having the problems that I now do where I cannot access my money.
Also, the office is located in the small town of Kindersley, Saskatchewan with very argumentative and unprofessional rural staff. The town is about the size of a small neighbourhood with a population of around 4,000 people and is nowhere near a major city. If you use Google maps, you can see that it is a small postage stamp in the middle of nowhere. The staff were extremely rude when I called to withdraw funds and I was told that I could not withdraw my money. One staff member even started pretending she could not hear me although she clearly could and even hung up on me when I explained that their (the SPP's) marketing emphasizes that you can make contributions if you have RRSP room but their marketing does not mention anything about not being able to withdraw the funds. When I called back, another staff member started arguing with me when I indicated the same thing regarding their misleading marketing. Very argumentative people.
The other thing I found interesting is that they had no sense of Privacy. They wanted me to send them confidential information via email.
Their marketing on Facebook and Linkedin does not mention anything about not being able to withdraw funds yet talks about RRSP rooms and is thus misleading since people may assume the plan is like an RRSP which I assumed as well.
Also, the information is not clearly indicated on their website yet the website emphasizes how to make contributions because they probably know that substantially fewer people would contribute if they knew that they could not withdraw their money whenever they wanted to.
I think that the SPP needs to be more honest and transparent about this fact in all of their marketing and on their website as well as their Linkedin and Facebook pages and Twitter.
The general investor is not going to read The Saskatchewan Pension Plan (SPP) Act and Regulations.
