I went to St John's Cemetary today to visit my Mothers grave site. The 15th anniversary of my Mothers Passing. Was this week. I also planted some Daisies which looked good and as perennials and will come back exery-year hopefully. My Family have Many relatives Interred at This Cemetery. The Cemetery is lovely with trees grass and Mosuleams. They have over the years built many niches for cremation Urns. They are very nice looking. They do a good job maintaining the grounds. I find the grass and trees relaxing to think.
This is an incredible cemetery close to Forest Park, I went there looking for famous mafia figures buried there and if you do some research before getting there, it is possible to find a good half dozen of the more famous mafiosi, I uploaded a picture of the resting place of Lucky Luciano in his family's chapel where he is buried under his real name, Salvatore Lucania. The columbarium where Gotti is resting is interesting too with several references to the prodigal son....A definite MUST for anybody wanting more information about New York's mafia history.
Beautiful cemetery. My parents are buried there in 2020 because of COVID deaths. My family couldn't think of a more beautiful place.
This review is for the people in charge of headstone permits, Judy. The monument company has take 4 trips to install my mother’s headstone and had no success because every time they go there’s a different “excuse” Judy failed to communicate with the monument dealer and didn’t send a “setting pass”. Judy forgot to mail it? This is so ridiculous and I just want my mother’s headstone placed!
This is my mother’s final resting place. And my review is strictly for the caretakers of the grounds. Have respect for the dead, and the families in mourning. I adorn my mothers grave with simple decorations, it’s therapeutic for me. And the caretaker’s have deliberately damaged most of them. They damaged the beautiful solar angels, solar candles, threw away the cross, and on my most recent visit, I realized they cut the cord to the solar lights on her headstone. This is unacceptable! It pains me to call them caretakers, when they show no care or respect for the dead, and the living!
10 out of 10 cemetery. Its my first time visiting and i can say that St.Johns cememtery is very well maintained. Outstanding headstones marble floors and wood decor.
My experience with St.Johns isn't positive. My mother was buried back in April 2020. Since then I have had 3 incidents where the tractor would run over my moms plot and destroy everything. Today I went to the cemetery for Valentines day and all of my mothers plants 4 and her memorial plaque was gone. There was Mud and tire tracks all over my moms grave. My sister later found half of my mom's plaque a few steps away snapped in half! This was a metal hand engraved plaque, this wouldn't break easily. You would need excessive force to break it, such as a tractor. The cemetery doesn't take any responsibility for their workers actions! We have put so much time and money into making the space for our mom beautiful and special, to which is destroyed very frequently. We never know what to expect the conditions to be when we arrive to visit our mom but today the conditions were absolutely unacceptable.
I have been to cemeteries around the world in which famous people are buried. There is always a map, and also generally signage to help you locate sites of note. I went here to find the grave of a famous athlete I admire. Not only is there no map available online or at the cemetery, but the worker in the cemetery office told me they "can't" share location information of those buried there unless you are family! Which, 1 what constitutes as proof? 2 that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard and 3 what a sad, fearful country we live in where this information isn't readily given. I guess that, with around 30% of those interred here being mob-connected check the cemetery's Wikipedia page if you think that's an exaggeration, maybe they don't want to have to fix any damage done by vengeful family members.
St. John’s cemetery is a very a clean place for our loved ones to “Rest In Peace”. Volunteers come & clean in the morning. Specially, the elder men & women come and clean tombstones or around it. Easy access to drive through and find your loved ones. It’s Beautiful Cemetery.
I left flowers on a Grave for Mother’s Day at 9:30AM.. by 3:00PM my flowers have been removed. This is an outrage. It is a holiday, if people/grave diggers/cemetery owners can’t respect items left on a loved ones grave, they should not be in business nor welcomed to the Cemetery. Unacceptable!
