Story

Safari Niagara’s vision is to provide an opportunity for its visitors to meet animals and birds up close, which may spark a flame for future conservationists and naturalists. This one-to-one connection with nature can inspire any individual, especially a child. In a world where children experience fewer exchanges with nature, Safari Niagara provides an unprecedented opportunity for kids of all ages and abilities to view, interact with and learn about the different species that share our planet, all while engaging in a fun and rewarding outdoor adventure!

Although the Tykolis family began operating its first business 38 years ago, their innovative business approach has resulted in the culmination of an entirely new and industry distinct business which opened to the public in 2002. In memory of their late father’s love for animals and after more than 10 years of planning and development, a once flat, clay tract of land in rural Stevensville has been carefully converted to green space complete with hills, trees and lakes. Since opening, Safari Niagara has become known in Niagara as one of the area’s best and safest places for families, students and corporate groups to experience nature together.

Love the place! Always fun with the kids. It is very easy to spend the entire day here. In the summer all of their outdoor attractions are open. The pool for kids is amazing! It's shallow and has something for all ages. The animals are all there and it has everything you expect from a huge zoo, but you don't have to walk for hours trying to get from one exhibit to aanother. The food is actually decently priced compared to any other tourist attraction and the portions are planned for the entire family...especially when you get large fries. They also do events like concerts and organize something special for wine or beer festivals. Have a trick or treating day for the kids in October, which is awesome because everyone is allowed to dress up. I would recommend getting season passes around December time because they are only $45 per person and are good for the whole season. If you plan to go more than once, you might as well get it. The price for the membership goes up in January and then again in March.

This place was fantastic. We went here while on our honeymoon in Niagara. It was very easy to get to with our car, and we spent almost the entire day there. There was a wide variety of big cats to see, and the big cat tour (at 11AM) was especially awesome. There were a couple other shows we went to where they do an animal show-and-tell which we loved. We otherwise got to see giraffes, hippos, a rhino, bears, several bald eagles, many different types of primates, a bobcat feeding and more. All of the staff we came in contact with were friendly and knowledgeable. We went in early September, and it wasn't crowded at all. We had no problems getting great views of the animals. If I had one minor complaint to make it would be that the map doesn't actually detail every path in the zoo, which was mildly inconvenient. But not a huge deal! For Americans, make sure you bring a few loonies so you can buy food to feed to the animals. The zoo did otherwise accept our American credit cards.

Well organized zoo with a large play area and splash pad. Very family friendly. Parking isn't a problem. Hop on, hop off transit inside is regular but you're still likely to be doing a fair amount of walking. Plenty of opportunities to get in closer to animals.

Great place to take younger kids. Lots to do. Lots of animals to learn about. I suggest going early/late in season though, to avoid super hot weather where some animals stay cool in their shelters.

I was scared when I first came here but happy to report that the animals seem and act well cared for. Safari Niagara uses revenue to improve the enclosures of their animals, which is good to see. Some exhibits are one the small side but over time they are expanding them. I would still like to see more enrichment items in the enclosures though, but overall they are doing very well.
