There is so much to see here! I think you need to come here several times to actually see it all properly. There is just too must to see in one session. The lighting in this place was excellent. The lights really accented and detailed all the artifacts, fossils and displays. The bug gallery was probably our favourite. My kids loved it. Great place to bring the family for something different to do. It really surprised us.
Here's a quick review. 1. Some rooms make you go "woahhhh!" 2. There's air conditioning! 3. There are great inventive use of touch screen videos. 4. The human history section has some really neat displays. Especially the round glass display of culturally important individually owned items. 5. The giant bones of dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals are jaw dropping. 6. There's some really neat infrared rock displays. Lots of rocks can also be touched. 7. Bug exhibit is great for kids it seems. Sometimes hard to see the insects. There is also a kid zone. 8. Staff were very friendly and informative. 9. There was a very robust gift shop with local items. 10. I kinda wish there was more display rooms.
Great for families, couples, singles or groups! They have a beautiful souvenir store with lots of choices. The only thing I don't like is the parking, it is $20 per car per day unless you can find something super far away for free. They have the minerals, animals, kids, bugs sections and more !Visited onWeekendWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedYes
Great museum. It makes sense to buy the one year pass because two or three hours is not enough to see all the galleries. Front desk guy was really friendly and helpful and offered us to upgrade our one day family pass to one year. So we will come back again for seeing the rest.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
I haven't been to the RAM since it was in the old building, and I love how it's been set up. It's such a different, but spacious and nice atmosphere and I felt childishly taking my time to look and learn at all the wonderful things there were to see. Accessibility gets an A+, as well. There's lots of space to move, and to sit when needed.
Be prepared for well curated exhibits that take you on a full history of Alberta from prehistoric times to present day. First Nations focus was fascinating and surely only covers the surface. Also enjoyed the transportation exhibit. And the fossils and gem stones. Peg 4 hours or more if you like to read the exhibit information.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Our first time at the new location was a lot of fun! Really improved in terms of visitor experience. Great exhibits that are larger and more detailed. I would love to see more exhibits featured in the future.
The RAM was a really interesting museum experience. I hadn’t been in over ten years so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The museum is really beautifully crafted with lots of interactive stations. We spent over three hours in the Human History gallery. Like a lot of human history galleries that I have visited, it goes chronologically, starting with info on Alberta’s First Nations. Listening to stories and histories told by elders was really lovely. We also popped into the natural history gallery and went through it a little faster, but there was a lot of great info and even as a history major who was visiting for a university project, I found myself learning a lot in both galleries. We got there really early in the morning, I think we were the second couple to arrive, so it was really quiet.
Beautiful museum and we loved the cafe! My husbands company built the displays and it was nice to see them in person. Interactive kids portion was fun for both kids 3 and 1. My only “complaint” would be that they don’t have their own parking but that’s more of a result of the location and not their fault.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
Beautiful building. I have had the privilege of attending the museum in its former location-where the parking WAS FREE. Be prepared to pay at least 8 dollars for two hours mon to fri for underground parking. Its $21. Per adult. If you show up 1/2 before closing, it's free admission.. great gift shop, and helpful staff. The exhibits are well done and informative, tons to see. I did it in 30 minutes
