Middlefield Cheese is now Rothenbuhler Cheesemakers, producer of award winning Swiss cheese.

Story

Formerly known as Middlefield Cheese, Rothenbuhler Cheesemakers has been producing delicious Swiss cheese varieties of high quality since 1956, when Hans Rothenbuhler made its first 250 lb. wheel of cheese. Hans and his wife Ann worked as a team in creating Middlefield Cheese, with Ann running the retail store, known today as the Rothenbuhler Cheese Chalet. Today, the company is led by the couple’s son, John, who leads with the same passion and commitment to quality as his father.

The Cheese Chalet offers a wide selection of meats and cheeses cut to order, fresh sandwiches, local and gourmet products, and of course samples of our Swiss! The store has become a destination not to be missed—come by for a taste to see for yourself why!

The cheese here was so good! I love the cheddar garlic and green onion ranch. We went back the day before our flight. We had to bring some bk to Colorado. Froze it& but it in my checked luggage!
Huge variety of cheeses, meats and other foods. Nice gift shop as well. Prices are VERY reasonable and the staff are always friendly.

You're going to want to visit this cheese factory! They have a historical section showing the founder and cheese processing and a sitting area. They have a shop where they have a wide assortment of cheeses and fresh deli meats, dairy, breads, and pantry items. They make sandwiches to order which are absolutely fantastic! Really. They are great and they have wonderful staff! Try this place you won't be disappointed.
Prices are a little high, but the meats and cheeses are definitely worth it! Small store front, in front of the cheese warehouse, allows you to buy fresh made cheeses and butters, fresh cut meats, and just about anything to go with it fancy crackers, pretzels, spreads, jams, jellies, mustards, etc and even a decent selection of candies. They even make sandwiches, upon request. Lots of other historical information about the cheese house, the owners, and the area can be found just inside the front doors, or you can take a tour to learn even more!
Great cheese! Loved the powdered cheddar. I made Mac and cheese with it. Sooo good! Great variety. Their bread is very good too. Yummy samples.
If you like Swiss cheese...you're wait is over. With so many varieties of Swiss, I can't choose. My favorite is the award winning Reserve but not far behind is the Emmantaler...or is it baby eye.
I hate delivery to this location. I've been driving all day, and instead of waiting in the truck, taking a break, I am OBLIGATED to do the samples, get on the tanker, etc. I never see an employee, I'm on my own.
Been coming here for years. Very tasty cheeses great selection too as well as very fresh bread. They make sandwiches to order on site which are good there are a few tables inside where you can sit down and eat. Wide variety of other snacks/goodies.
Great cheese and what not's the only place my wife can find real creamy butter cheese .
