Came here for breakfast seated near the fire place which was great. While having an upper market feel it is let down by duct tape hiding wires. Accessibility was good for physically constrained people. The food was ok, whilst having a great sounding menu the food I personally got was not great. I ordered the wild boar on toast pork belly basically and the cut of meat I got was 80% fat which I had to leave aside. Whilst I appreciate pork belly is naturally fatty maybe the kitchen could have been more sympathetic to the diner especially because it was about $20 for essentially thick bacon on toast.
Visited on a Friday night at 9:45pm. There weren't many people there. However the music and the ambiance was great. Got seated near the fireplace and was immediately attended to. Had 2 appetizers the sweet dry pork ribs and the steak bites both of which are good enough to be main courses on their own if the portions were larger. Had 2 cocktails the cosmopolitan and long island ice tea and both tasted great with the alcohol ratio being good in each drink. Had the ravioli for the main course and added chicken while my wife had the fish and chips. The main courses could have been better because there was a little burnt area of the chicken in the ravioli and the fish was very batter heavy and needed extra salt and better to improve the taste. However, the portions were quite large and satisfying with the fish being big, and the ravioli minus the burnt chicken tasted great. This is a great spot to enjoy the company of who you are with and to have good food as well. Highly recommend the steak bites!
Pleasant surroundings with great food. Loved my double patty burger with bacon and cheese. Even with quite a few people sound levels were good for visiting. Service was efficient and attentive. There are a couple of different areas to accommodate different size groups.
Thomsons Kitchen and Bar was an excellent place located within the Hyatt Hotel downtown. The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable of the menu. Each person seemed to have an answer for their recommendation immediately so there are delicious options for anyone no matter what your preference. The bison bourgignone and bison meatballs were excellent and filling. Potatoes and carrots were soft and flavorful, while the meatballs were served chilled which added a unique contrast to what I was expecting. The meat fell off the bone with the lamb shanks. The mashed potatoes were light and smooth with a richness that accented the lamb perfectly. The squash wedges had a hint of crisp to them and seasoned magnificently bringing out the subtle flavors on the plate. Very impressed with Thomsons Kitchen. I'll be back to try more items on their menu.
I cannot review the restaurant atmosphere since I was not inside the restaurant, but I ate the food, wow! The food was absolutely amazing! The Caesar salad was one of the best Caesar salads i have ever had in my life the burger and fries are also amazing! Room service was excellent, it was also really cool for my mom to see potato chips on a silver platter!
We were looking for a nice place to have brunch on Sunday and came across Thomson's. We arrived shortly after they opened and waited a while till finally someone came to greet and seat us. Before we settled, we first took a look at the buffet since we had bad experiences before. It looked absolutely awesome and smelled delicious. So, we decided to stay. Unfortunately, this is where the positive experience ended. Our server, though sweet and friendly, was as unattentive as they come. Never looked in our direction or made eye contact. Only really came to the table once at the beginning to take our eggs Benny order. We even had to ask, what I guess was the supervisor who also was mainly just chatting with the servers and standing around, for our bill after we tried for about 10 minutes to get anyones attention. The food, despite the looks, was rather disappointing. Nothing tasted really good. The eggs Benedict were a total disappointment. We haven't been asked how we like them, they came medium though I prefer them soft, the thin slice of ham didn't even cover the whole muffin, hardly any hollandaise, both portions were served on one plate, as I asked for another plate it took so long I got up and got one myself. The hollandaise had no flavour whatsoever. All other items also had no flavour or tasted strange. The roast beef was so overcooked that it was hard to cut. The whole experience was a major disappointment and is definitely not worth the money they are charging. The attached pictures show how awesome it looks, but that's really where anything positive ends. Stay away and save your money.
It was my experience and not the good one. I loved the decor and ambiance in Hyatt so thought to have lunch there. The Salas I ordered came with the prawns went bad with old artichokes. Then I replaced it with another simple cranberry ceaser salad which came with kinda frozen, stuck together, chewy cranberries. And the service was very slow, I had to go to ask the bartender to call a server. I am not sure if I will go back again, pretty sad and disappointed.
Staff was super friendly and helpful. The food was creative and delicious. The A/C was very welcome as as respite to the hot Calgary summer weather and heat from the concrete-lined 8th Avenue Steven Avenue. I didn't realize this was part of the Hyatt suite of restaurants. Highly recommend and will be back!
There was a bit of a rush at this place, but in spite of that the service was quick. We had been there for a late lunch and were quite hungry, so we were happy to get the food quickly. The food was good. The portion size was great, the drinks were amazing and best of all was the service.
Nice to sit outside and enjoy the movement of people passing by. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It was possible to eat at gluten-free and vegan dessert.
