Rice County Habitat is a Christian nonprofit organization that partners with local families to help them achieve the dream of homeownership.
Rice County Habitat was chartered in 1991 and built our first house in 1993 in Northfield. A couple of things merged together to create our affiliate. First, a group of people from some local churches went on a Habitat trip to Michigan. They came back inspired and energized to do the same work locally. Secondly, there was a city program in Faribault that helped to remodel homes with and for people who were low-income. People from both of those groups came together to form a Rice County Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
Since that time, we have continued to build houses with people in need. Habitat brings together volunteers and Partner Families to build not only homes, but communities.
Rice County Habitat is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, which was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Today Habitat for Humanity is a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing.
Rice County Habitat for Humanity partners with families who otherwise may be unable to achieve the dream of home ownership by establishing partnerships among God's people to build simple, decent, affordable homes.
