Overall my experience with Restland was positive. The graveside service went perfectly and I appreciated the sales advisor when creating the headstone- he was compassionate and attentive to detail. I do think there prices are VERY high and for those prices it really bugs me when they aren’t attentive to the cleanliness of the surroundings. My husband is by a beautiful stream but there is always trash in it and I think they could put a little more effort into those things. One of my sons actually brings a trash bag when we go! Again though, it’s overall the only place in Dallas I would have used.
When we drive by Restland, it's a sore point because our previous attempts to address the poor maintenance of grave markers have gone unanswered and unresolved. We have 2 loved ones buried near each other in the Whispering Waters section of Restland, which we chose for its scenic park-like setting. But as you can see in the photos attached to this review, cemetery maintenance is not what we'd expect for such a premium price. In fact, it's disrespectful. 1. Sloping and sunken grave markers: As shown in the first 2 photos, my grandmother's flat grave marker is sloping 10-15% and my father's is sinking into the ground along with most all the surrounding graves. 2. Problems with the grave vase: The vase there now is not the same one from when my grandmother's grave marker was put in place, and it doesn't fit the threaded hole to turn it upright. It falls through. I understand if a vase gets stolen, but at least replace it with the same kind of vase designed for that grave marker. We didn't purchase her plot at "chip and dent" prices, so we shouldn't get chip and dent maintenance. 3. Park maintenance: I feel like since Restland was purchased by Northstar Memorial Group of Houston, the pride of ownership and upkeep has declined drastically. As other reviewers have mentioned, bare spots, sunken terrain, and grass clippings left behind. As you'll see in the fourth photo, these dead grass clippings litter many of the graves at Restland. The 2 graves pictured there are not ours, but I felt so bad someone's loved ones names and thoughtful inscriptions were covered that I swept and clean their graves afterward to pay them respect. In the last photo, we saw someone had the same idea. This gentleman brought a leaf blower, and was blowing and picking up leaves and grass himself to honor his loved one. How sad is it that this grieving gentleman had to take it upon himself to do this when no doubt he like all of us paid thousands of dollars to have Restland maintain a pristine memorial park for our loved ones? We've brought these issues up several times. Once on Father's Day, when a representative for Restland was on site to assist visitors, and we told him that my dad's grave marker was sinking and the lawn maintenance wasn't what it used to be. Then once again at my grandmother's interment, when we told the woman who was handling the graveside service our concerns, and she said she'd take care of it. Plus, at least two phone calls that ended up with my mother in tears because she was so disheartened by the lack of action taken. I've taken up the cause now, and am waiting for a call back from Cory or Brad, the park managers. Based on other reviews here, I, too, am disheartened and doubtful if I get a call back. They say cemeteries are not for the dead, but for the living to honor their beloved deceased. Restland, I think you're doing both a disservice. ____ Update 11/5/21 Restland have assets in Cory Morris, park maintenance manager, and Mike Day, GM, who were extremely responsive and attentive to my concerns. The next day, I received a call from both of them and spoke extensively to Mike, who listened to my concerns, admitted that they can use more help maintaining such a large cemetery, but ultimately said that bottom line, their challenges shouldn't be a client's concern and vowed to rectify them. I'm happy to say both my dad and grandmother's grave markers were attended to. Thank you Cory and Mike.
Restland did an awesome job taking care of my mom and dad's service. They were very in the know by listening to exactly what we wanted and they did not disappoint!! They were in complete communication 24/7, updating us on status or changes daily. Key Bailey Lakisha, Michelle and Marcus were three of the kindest, compassionate individuals I have ever met. Constantly making sure we didn't require anything before and after the service, letting me know if they were going to be in another area, the other two would be available to assist should there be something needed. My mother's flowers didn't arrive on time for the service but Key had the perfect solution that took all the burden off my shoulders. They were there to help load up our vehicles with reception food, flowers, plants etc.. Their professionalism went far beyond my expectations, yet they showed the perfect caring side of themselves. If you need to make arrangements and schedule a service, be sure to ask for this trio - they will not let you down, I promise. Thank you Key, Michelle & Marcus for making my parents' Celebration of Life day so beautiful. Your compassion was very emotionally uplifting and touched me deeply. You will all, forever have a place in my heart. Much Love.
Restland funeral home went above and beyond for my family and I in our time of need! I recently lost my father recently and the Restland team was able to personalize the service to represent my father perfectly. I would like to thank the following: Deric Walker, Lawanda Stone, Jerome Speiks for executing the services flawlessly, Randle Chambers for outstanding cosmetics, Cris Carter for grooming my dad and making him look awesome, Jennifer Hannon for capturing our families moments perfectly, and especially Rochelle Lockhart for being there every step of the way for my family and I.
Thank you to funeral director Melinda Kurtz for assisting my family with the preparation & service arrangements following my Dad’s passing. His visitation at Restland on 12/8 & service ceremony at DFW National Cemetery on 12/9 went perfectly. Melinda was very kind, compassionate and caring toward my family during this difficult time and we appreciate her professionalism.
From beginning to end, our experience in planning and executing my Mom’s memorial service and burial was absolutely perfect. The compassion shown by the staff and their patience in helping us make decisions was outstanding. They found us an absolutely wonderful minister who took great care to learn as many details as he could in order to personalize the service. The flowers were spectacular, and the memorial tribute video was truly beautiful. The professionalism of Savannah, Starr, Patti, Ruth and Mr. Griffin definitely softened the blow of a very sad loss, and my family is very grateful.
As my brother-in-law and his family laid his mom to rest after a long courageous battle with cancer, she was laid in a pool of water and rushed through the ceremony. No one should have to see their family treated this way. This is completely disheartening and disregard for human dignity and religious rights.
you’d think after all the money you spend, they’d treat you and your dead relatives with more respect. couldn’t give my own mother flowers on christmas due to the inconsideration taken with her headstone as well as my grandparents right beside her. every time I visit , the bending of the bottom metal piece becomes worse until finally I could no longer remove the vase at ALL. not going to ask how this even happens without serious manhandling being done, I’m simply disappointed.
Andrea Shields and staff are an excellent example of staff who helps make a devastating situation into one that is filled with care and truly makes you feel calmer and relaxed and able to deal with the death of a loved one. They took great care of my father and made us feel comfortable. Andrea helped us every step of the way. We feel everyone went above and beyond in every aspect. I was so elated how Andrea and the Restland staff took care of my mother,they were so caring, concerned, and would always say let us know if you need anything and it wasn't just a saying if we called they would get right on top of the matter, my family and I just really appreciated them for taking a huge load off of us! They take care of business and very professional and attentive! Our Mother looked beautiful! Your in Good Hands with Restland!
