Restaurant Sogen

The food is just fine, the avocado maki I ordered is not even fresh, it looked rotten. nothing special about it, though plating is nice. What I don’t like is the attitude of the waitress. No smile at all, and she looked impatient so I got a bit scared of asking questions. I would not recommend it, and I will definitely not come back again. If you don’t mind driving 10 more minutes, there are much more nicer Japanese restaurants in Brossard, delicious and unique, waiter and waitress are not giving you a grumpy face.

The atmosphere is definitely the aspect that I loved the most when dining here. The spacious couches/ chairs and the good distance between the tables really makes you feel more comfortable and less cramped in the restaurant. The service was delightful, while maintaining her professionalism, the waitress was polite and friendly. I do feel like it did take quite a long time before we managed to order our food but the restaurant was quite busy so it is understandable. I really enjoyed their edamame soup. It's such an innovative concept to me, I never had soup like this before but I was a bit disappointed because I couldn't really taste any edamame. But still, the soup was creamy and tasted great. As for the sashimi combo that I had, I really enjoyed the freshness of the fish and the size of the slices. The presentation was also magnificent. For 45$ the combo though, I do feel like the platter of sashimi was a bit underwhelming. The cuts were quite basic and even though I like the presentation, most of the stuff on it was not really adding anything to the flavours. The radish was also a bit bitter which made the overall less enjoyable. I would have loved to see some fancier ingredients such as fatty tuna or scallops, especially for the prices they charge for 16 pieces of sashimi.

Very bad experience with the table host. We reserved a table at 6pm. At least 4 tables available and she insisted we take a table that's dark and couldn't see anything. She tried to explain that our table can do 2 seating while the other one can't because the other one is reserved at 630pm? Made us stand there debating for a table.... It's a table omg!nnAnyways other than that, our waitress gave us the better table with more light. Her name was Yen and she made the evening a lot better. Service was great, staff was great at refills and the food had very nice presentation.nWould come back and recommended.

Wow! What a disappointment this place is. We ordered the deluxe sushi platter for 2 for $67, plus other things, the photo they have on their website for their DELUXE platter for 2 shows deluxe rolls but when we received our platter it was full of rolls only filled with egg, imitation crab and shrimp tempura. No fresh fish, except for the sashimi and nigiri. What a shame. We got duped. It’s the chef’s choice, they said. Buyer beware. We called and talked to the owner, he just gave us attitude and said the platter is always like this. Ok…….definitely not going back.
