so we headed out west in our quest for gold and ended up in Ormstown for a meal with local farmers and coffee roaster to enjoy their latest harvest while sipping on some local winery with fellow loved friends.
We got a taste of what they do at the restaurant which is a culinary tour of the world so to speak. We started with a Mexican soup that had an aroma reminiscent of the canned spaghetti meat sauce. You know, the cateli brand. Don't be fooled by its scent, it definitely tasted better!
We then had a vegetarian salad mixed with sprout. Loved the mushroom even though some were allergic to such delicious little white button of love. Then came the potato salad with the secret ingredient, sweet potato. Way better than the one you get at a certain fried chicken joint.
We even had their interpretation of butter chicken, the tomato was the highlight of the dish. There was a vegetable curry. The showstopper was the ground cherry chutney! We loved the taste but couldn't put our finger on what ingredient they used until we learned it was ground cherries. That's when we all said "cherry pie" and I have to say, that sweetness was off the chart. Just kept eating chutney with some naan bread.
For dessert, we had the infamous fruit cake. Of all fruit cakes, this one didn't had that alcoholic strong taste associate with such hated cake. Alongside the cake, we had some local brewed coffee that was really mild in flavor. Being used to stronger roast, we thought something was off but it wasn't. The bean flavor was simply different.
For wine, we had a choice of white and/or red. A cider-ish and some sweeter red. Pretty fine wine!
When it was time to leave, we had the bright idea to follow a friend's car which brought us to a farm for some sightseeing.. We thought we were going home. It wasn't the case but hey, a couple of us got to try the some stupid hot habanero. I believe them!
