Bannock bread is amazing, out of this world. It’s worth going just for the bread hahaha! Food is very different, but good. We arrived for lunch but the kitchen was closed for mains and we had to order platters it closed at 2:30. Tried the fish platter and the signature platter, both were very good. I loved the bread and salmon jerky. Very unique and tasteful selection of toppings the sauces served on the side. Good service, very kind waiters that offer you a more private experience by not hanging around the table as much and sort of going about their own thing. They will come quickly when you call, though, and are always at your disposition! The place has a wonderful atmosphere with many beautiful paintings and well-made taxidermies. Loved the bison and the moose; both are impressive! The view from the window side tables is marvellous too. Wide range of seating options, clean bathrooms, and nice music very quiet and out of your way, allows for conversation. In conclusion, a solid restaurant!
Although the food was very expensive, the experience was worth it since it was beautifully decorated in the inside. The bannock was delicious. The candied salmon was delicious in an unexpected but in a good way since the curing elevates the flavor of the salmon. The deer hearts and the pan-fried arctic were also delicious. The Three Sisters Style Cream soup tasted like broccoli cheese soup and was only okay. The desserts were delicious. Overall, it's worth going at least once while in the Québec City area.
The food was great, we tried the 4 plates menu. The portions were small but we were satisfied with our meal. I loved the ambiance. The whole experience was great except for our waitress, we had to ask for butter 3 times before getting it. She was short on her answers and seems in a hurry to go elsewhere. For a +$300 meal for 3 people, I would have expected better service.nThe Fish, the Fish was GREAT, I believe this was one of the best fish I have ever eaten.
My experience dining at this restaurant was mixed, and perhaps my expectations were a bit higher given the setting. I had breakfast twice and dinner during my stay at the hotel.nnThe first breakfast was YOGOURT ET GRANOLA MAISON, a large bowl of whipped yogurt topped with homemade granola and fruits, all drenched in maple syrup. While I love maple syrup, I found the amount overwhelming, and it overshadowed the other flavors. The portion size was also quite large, and I wasn’t able to finish it. We were also served toasted bannock slices, but unfortunately, they were overcooked and too hard to chew.nnThe second breakfast, BOL DE L’AMITIÉ VEGAN with oat milk, chia seeds, and oatmeal was much more to my liking, likely because I specifically requested a lighter hand with the maple syrup.nnFor dinner, I ordered a glass of Hee-Hee-Tel-Kin red wine from BC. However, I was taken aback when the person pouring the wine casually remarked that I had made a poor choice since the wine was better suited to red meat dishes, not vegetables. Additionally, I found the $20 charge for a small glass of wine to be overpriced, especially when a full bottle costs less than $30. The wine also had bubbles in it, which may indicate it’s gone off. Unfortunately, it led to an upset stomach later in the evening.nnThe dinner menu was different than what's shown on the restaurant's website. The appetizer, a mushroom dish with a small portion of blueberries, was an interesting combination and enjoyable, but the main course was a letdown. A blend of white beans, cheese, and cabbage simply didn’t complement each other.nnThe most disappointing part of the evening was the birthday celebration I had planned and mentioned upon arrival, which was completely overlooked. When our server finally brought out the dessert, I had to remind her of the note I had left earlier. At that point, it was clear that the surprise had been lost, and the moment was no longer special.
Reservation is recommended even when the restaurant does not appear to be busy. Great way to make use of your time in Wendake if you are there for the Musée Huron-Wendat. High end conceptual menus such as this are either hit or miss, but this was a hit. Service was excellent apart from one sommelier with a strange attitude. Food was great and worth the slightly higher price point.
