Rest-N-Nest Campground

About

Opening April 28th and closing October 9th for the 2017 camping season.

Story

REST N’ NEST lies in the remarkable quiet of a 20-acre forest. A central location with all major highways leading directly to the campground makes Rest N’ Nest an ideal base for all your excursions, with most New Hampshire & Vermont attractions being no more than 1 hour away.

Carved out of the woods, the campground better known as, “THE CAMPGROUND WITH ELBOW ROOM”, pleads guilty of extra large sites, quiet and relaxing atmosphere for those wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Swim our relaxing pool or enjoy our man-made, spring fed pond. Our spectacular pond includes a fun slide with floating raft. Children will enjoy our exciting playground and video games in our game room. Utilize our large rec hall to watch your favorite sporting event on satellite TV or play horseshoes outdoors. A special section has been made for seasonal and monthly guests with metered electric, also an area for group camping. Selected events are held on weekends including Easter in June, Christmas in July, Halloween in August, “Happy the Clown”, hayrides, scavenger hunts, pig roast and more.

Within a ten minute drive is an 18-hole golf course at beautiful Lake Morey. Canoe or fish the Connecticut River with boat access located 1 mile from the campground or at Lake Fairlee (4 miles) or Lake Morey (6 miles). The Montshire Museum of Science is just 10 miles south of Rest N’ Nest. Queechee Gorge and White River Jct. are just 15 minutes away. Hike the Appalachian Trail, our own State forest or visit Union Village Dam, just minutes from the campground.

Our fall foliage is beyond compare. Spectacular views can be seen from mid September to mid October whether you take the interstate or the scenic routes.

We stayed here last summer for 3 months. Park is nice and clean and has easy access to the highway. There's a great little farm down the hill with awesome coffee & scones. Downtown Hanover is great and the science center is awesome. We had no trouble with the owners, we appreciated that they had rules and actually enforced them unlike most of the other campgrounds we've stayed at. We would recommend this park to anyone staying in the area.

Tent campsites are located next to a stinky stagnant, mosquito infested 'creek'. Which makes the nest quite literal as you are forced into your tent as soon as the sun sets. The rest part is laughable due to the proximity to the highway. Stayed for 9 days because the other accomadations we're adequate. Clean showers and bathrooms. I'm a 100% disabled combat veteran and my fiance is pregnant, asked if we could stay 3 more nights and pay when my disability payment came in as we were waiting to sign a lease in 3 days time. Offered them my ID credit card and even our car keys as collateral. They flatly refused quite rudely. Family owned but not family friendly, turned away a disabled combat veteran and his pregnant fiance because of greed.

Although I agree that rules and policies are needed this campground has an excess of them. The rules seem to be more catered to protecting the owners rather than creating a pleasant experience for their guests. WIFI should not be advertised if you don't also advertise your stipulations of use. Everyone must agree to not use too much bandwidth for fear of being kicked off. For the record, I was not kicked off, but the WIFI was limited. I am not from Vermont so I don't know if this is a Vermont thing and I have never encountered it, or if this is exclusive to this campground. We were assigned a site with the option of one other one when we came. Unfortunately, the first was not level and couldn't fit our tent. The second site was fine. After coming to them to ask how to fit our tent on the site the way they wanted, We were offered some more sites. As we stayed the three days not one other site was taken. Would have made more sense at check in to give us a map of the 10 available sites and tell us to pick one. Advice for future tent or pop up campers that don't want to ruin their tents by packing up wet- There is no flexibility to their seven day cancellation policy and it is impossible to predict the weather so really consider this before choosing this campground if you are travelling from a distance. We tried to give 48 hour advance notice of a change in plans but there was no flexibility. My advice would be don't reserve as the campground never had any other tent site in our whole section rented out the entire time we were there. Pay as you go. The campground itself was pretty and very well kept up, but it comes at times at the cost of keeping the guests from having a pleasant time. Example: You can't put your tent there as it might ruin our grass. The swimming pool closes pretty early at 7pm. Pets must be walked only by adults. My impression was it is a business and only that filled with rules and policies but no warmth.
