I've been frequenting this diner for the past few weeks, thanks to the prices at Blue Ribbon skyrocketing. I wasn't sure what to expect, because this is an old diner that has been in Schenectady on Hamburg Street forever. What I found was a pleasant surprise. We checked it out for brunch one Sunday, and found that the menu was varied like most diners, they had some great specials, and the wait staff was very friendly. What makes or breaks a diner experience is the staff, a clean uncluttered environment, good prices, and obviously the food. This place gets a thumbs up for all of those factors. My chicken sandwich was really great, but more importantly the French fries that came with it were perfectly cooked diner fries. Something that a lot of places mess up by using starch coated french fries, bad seasonings, or poor cook temperature. I'm happy to report that there were none of those problems here. The next time I went back I had French toast, which was excellent, perfectly cooked bacon on the side, and eggs exactly how I wanted them. Simple and to the point, that's what good diners are known for and I'll be coming back for years to come.
I had never been to the Redwood diner. It checked all the boxes for a good diner. The food was comfort food and cooked to my specifications. The service was prompt and friendly but not intrusive. The prices were reasonable. It is handicapped accessible. We were a group who hadn't seen each other in a while and we were told to feel free to sit and talk as long as we liked. Was a good experience. We'll probably meet there again next month!
Best diner in Schenectady/Rotterdam! I have come here for years and honestly have never had one bad experience. I typically get the omelette with hash & toast. Always comes out perfect. The workers at this diner are very personable and sure know how to run an efficient restaurant. The menu has basically everything to offer so whatever you are in the mood for they can accommodate. Spacious seating and lots of parking. I will always come back to this diner. Thank you…oh yeah don’t forget to look at the homemade cakes/pies in the front.
The waitstaff were super sweet and the atmosphere was great! You could tell that everyone loved being there. There were so many options for food. It was good, overall, especially the french onion soup which had a HUGE upcharge, but the fried fish and the veggies were pretty under seasoned.Food: 3/5
We get the same waitress everytime we go and she goes out of her way to take the best care of my aunt. She brings her coffee and a half a cup of soup before we even ask since she gets that every time. Thank you for always being so gracious.Food: 5/5
Old school mom and pop feel and the menu is huge. Full of options. I had the lasagna and my husband had the corn beef. My lasagna was cold in the middle and the corned beef had absolutely no flavor other than water but the chicken noodles soup was tasty. I will not go back there again but others might find it ok.Food: 3/5
It's one of my favorite places to go they have so many great choices I try to get something different every time I go just enjoy all the different dishes they have!! Great food and the people are truly friendly.Food: 5/5
They have a huge menu. The food was all delicious! The service was wonderful! They were even great with my two year old!
Delicious food, perfect for a rainy day as when this review was completed. Reasonable prices. Clean facilities and friendly staff. Ample parking out front. After his historic run for NY Governor, Larry Sharpe appeared here on August 17th, 2019.
I like this place a lot, but it isn't quite the top place to eat. You can't beat the variety in the menu. There are a lot of options. I picked halibut fricassee. The fish was excellent, but the bread crust was soggy. Overall it had too much lemon and not enough spinach. The soup and salad that came with it were excellent.Food: 4/5
