I went here to try to locate the gravesite of my Great grandparents, and was very impressed by the condition of the grounds and the helpful staff. I dropped into the office and was given maps and great instructions on locating the marker and with the help of a friendly groundkeeper I was able to find the marker. This is also a pleasant place just for a nice walk.
I love your cemetery .. many of my relatives are buried here. It’s beautiful…. The only event I had that was unpleasant is while visiting my deceased family members.. I got spooked by an old man in very nice dress clothes asking if I saw a headstone “Margret smith” I said do you know which location she is in… as I went to pull the map up on my phone … I’m adjusting the lighting as it was a bright day… I look up and he was gone. I went to see where he went but he wasn’t anywhere … I couldn’t figure out how someone could move so fast. Maybe he was a real person looking for help or maybe he was a ghost. Either way I called ghostbusters
For a cemetery, Prospect Cemetery is as good as it gets! Along St. Clair, there are large, abstract stones with poems carved in them. Inside the gate is a full-size group of statues illustrating the Last Supper. This Last Supper is beautiful, powerful, memorable, and very surprisingly gave me great calm when I saw it on a challenging day. This cemetery is significant to the St. Clair Avenue West Italian commu nity, and this is evidenced by the tasteful, elegant modern architecture; you might feel like you're in Tuscany. The grounds are well-kept and the smooth asphalt path north to Rogers Road, then Kitchener Avenue ending at Eglinton is a great place for a bike ride.
A lovely place to have a walk. Enjoy the changing colour of the leaves and learn some history too. Particularly poignant was the memorial to fallen soldiers. The neighbourhood of Earlscourt sent 2,500 young working class British men to war, but over 320 never returned, making this the most impacted neighborhood in Canada on a per capita basis. Read about more history on the plaques that provide context on the many wars Canadians served in. The mausoleums were also of particular interest.
My only complaint about this cemetery is that there are no animal sighting warning signs. I tried to go for a walk through the cemetery in October but 5 minutes into my walk, a coyote appeared 3 metres away from where I was standing. I was on the paved pathway and so was the coyote. It did not move at all and was just watching me. I slowly walked back to the Rogers Rd entrance/exit to avoid getting chased. I understand there is wildlife around and we need to share our land; however, while I was walking back I called the cemetery and notified them of the spotting. The lady on the phone mentioned that they knew there were coyotes there, they have been there for years and are more likely to make appearances during certain times. Had there been a coyote sighting warning sign, I would have avoided walking through the cemetery on a fall evening. I told them that they should probably put a sign to warn people as this is a scary situation to be in for some people. I walked by the cemetery entrance not too long ago and there is still no sign posted. I would hate for someone else to go through the terrifying feeling of fear that I went through that could have been completely avoided. I love walking through this cemetery in the summer and will continue to do so. It’s well maintained and extreme peaceful. I will just be avoiding the cemetery when the leaves start to change colours.
Disappointed in the lack of care and the sheer disrespect. Both my parents passed away within a couple of months of each other and are buried side by side, next to my uncle who passed just a year before them. My parents graves were in a state of disrepair, the funeral flower arrangements still on the grave 6 months later and only cleaned up when I called to complain. They ran over my uncles gave and completely sank his headstone in and after another complaint they came to raise the stone but left the grave half sunk in. The work is sloppy and seems to just be a quick fix to quiet the families. There genuinely seems to be no compassion from whoever the lady is that answers the phone, placing burden and blame on the families to reach out to get services. My heart is broken that my parents are both resting there and seem to be just an inconvenience to this place.
I visited here on the 4th of October. I cannot praise the staff enough for assisting me to find the grave sites of my relatives. I had contacted the cemetery previously by email and received plot numbers and maps. When I arrived at the office I was warmly welcomed and given more information to enable me to find what I was looking for. When I was out in the cemetery and a little bit lost I was able to ring the office and receive friendly and helpful information from a very patient staff member. I would like to pass on my thanks to all concerned. I hope that you may be able to solve the puzzle of the memorial stone
If I didn’t dislike other people so much, this would be a good Prospect-ive place to take an eternal rest.
After being stuck in good ole Toronto Traffic just yesterday I wanted to make this location my last after visiting 5 cemeteries previously I arrived and the large gate is closed. Locked right up. You can walk in but the graves I needed to see are way at the back. Too far to walk in this heat. DO they close the gates here everyday like a supermarket closes? Now it's time for a phone call to get the answer. Not impressed.
TLDR: Well maintained property and a great quiet walk/bike ride. As I was becoming familiar with the area I came across the chance to walk through the Prospect Cemetery in the middle of summer and was delighted to have such a quiet, well maintained spot right in the middle of a bunch of hustle and bustle. I frequently use their roads to walk to Earlscourt Park and up to Eglington Ave. Keep up the great work! Please do be advised you walk/bike on a road shared with vehicles moving through the cometary and there are no sidewalks unless you are visiting the buildings at the southern front of the property.
