Story

Portneuf Valley Family Center, Inc. was established in 2005 and has continued to grow from simple beginnings to three office locations in southeast Idaho. PVFC was started with a vision of opening a mental health clinic/agency where those who struggle with mental health issues would be able to get the valuable treatment they were in need of by caring professional staff. To make this vision a reality, PVFC recruits and hires only the best individuals who are committed to the cause of enhancing the lives of those whom they serve. Today, as a result of that vision, PVFC employs the highest quality staff southeast Idaho has to offer to meet the individual needs of each consumer. Our treatment philosophy involves a community approach to recovery by working with the consumer and their families as well as natural supports living in their community. It is our goal to walk with each consumer on their unique path to recovery as a supportive team member in the community where they live.

The front desk staff is amazing, special shout out to Jace, and Miguel. I love my counselor as well. I've had a very good experience here. There are many services available.
Company is unethical, can't handle patients in crisis, and engages in client abandonment.
I have seen prescribers who were dipping into the candy jar, who couldn't remember my name, who yelled at me... I have been Renae Katter's client for 3+ years. I feel SO lucky to have found her. She saved my life, literally. She is kind, considerate and extremely knowledgeable. Unfortunately, she is busy but she will always call me and will fit me in if I'm having a very hard time. She is the best. After reading the previous review I am concerned about the loss of the patient coordinator who worked there for years. She always made me feel so welcome. I hope her leaving was amicable. Miguel is a so kind too ..good choice
I am writing this horrible review as I have witnessed how poorly the owners Rob & Charity treat their employees. They do not value staff and treat them as they are disposable. The environment is one of fear and intimidation, Charity is a Bully. If anyone questions Charity she retaliates and places them on a "plan of action" which will ultimately lead to termination. Rob and Charity have received 2 week resignations and rather than allowing the employee to work they terminate the employee immediately. They keep the employees paychecks and earned paid time off and make it impossible to get their deserved "last check". This review is to help others understand what a toxic work environment that Rob and Charity make for staff. They have terminated several staff members that were loved and recognized by the patients as true caring individuals. Rob and Charity I hope understand they have created an environment in which employees are intimidated and scared, please change this environment you have both harbored.
If I could give zero stars that's what it would be. My granddaughter was seeing a counselor there who left the practice. I was assured by staff that her same appointment time would be available. I was also assured that it wouldn't be any longer than two to three weeks before she was assigned a new counselor. Now it's six to eight weeks before being reassigned a counselor and no guarantee that we can keep the same appointment time. Why not tell the truth up front?
The first person I talked to was very nice and kind. They told me it would be 4-6 weeks for an appointment. They didn't ask if I was immediate need or a crisis, but I said I could wait 4 weeks. 6 and half weeks later I got a call and was scheduled for an appointment. However, it was with a grad student that is my age and that I have mutal friends with. Which of course they didn't know that, so it's totally understandable. I did wish they had asked questions before hand to avoid this, since so many people go to ISU. I told them I would need another provider, and they said it would be another 8-10 weeks. This was deeply saddening, so I said I would try some where else. I've worked in a counseling office, so I guess I just expected them to account for such issues and to reach out to future patients more. I can't wait for 2 months, especially after waiting for a month and a half already. But I understand these current times create a bigger demand of services.
I was called by Liz to make an apt the next day a Thursday I said I couldn't take my daughter because of work, she said ok next Thursday the 12th I wrote it on my calendar right when she said it and repeated it back. Well someone named Baily called and said because I've missed so many visits this might be my last if I don't show up Wednesday the the 11th, Thursday the 12th was supposed to be her first apt. It took so much work to get Thursday off and for no reason. I just want to cry I just wanted help for my daughter and not only do I not get help for her I will be missing out on hours I could have worked. I wish I had looked at the reviews before making this appointment.
I have been to a ton of different mental health centers in various cities, and I really like this place. Due to the pandemic I have only received telehealth appointments, but I have not felt the quality of care has been any less than if I were coming in to the office. If anything it is easier to make my appointments, as a mom. Getting scheduled for your first appointment is a little different than the average place, as other reviews have stated, they do not schedule you in the first time you call, but rather they call you when an appointment slot is available. It did not take long for me, but I can not speak for others. I see Sara Bigelow for therapy and Wende Leavitt for Med Management and have seen each of them consistently for 3 months now. I highly recommend them both. They are awesome and have really helped me.
I have been going to Portneuf Valley Family Center for a few years now. The staff and counselors are friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. They take your well being very seriously, and are very proactive. They listen and work with you, to help you with what you need, and even things you may not realize you need. I have been going to therapy for many years, this place has helped me more than any of the other places combined.
Renee Katter put me on a very addictive mood stabilizer, reassuring me after I expressed fear that I'd hurt myself If i was cut off from this medication again because of the intensity of the withdrawals, she would not do that. Then, around came a holiday and she canceled our appointment and didnt renew my prescription. There were no appointments available for six weeks. On top of that absurdity she showed a complete lack of care. She hurried us out of every appointment, each lasting about 5 minutes, but would always charge us for the full appointment.
