Vets and staff saved my dog from an intestinal blockage! They performed surgery and were successfully to boot. They are not a 24/7 emergency hospital but will help you out as much as they can or put you In contact with someone that can. They have your pets best interests in mind and will always offer advice. Don't hesitate to call!!!
Don't expect them to care if your pet passes away. I left a message on a Sunday evening asking for a call back on Monday morning. I explained that my elderly dog had become incredibly ill very quickly and was hoping to be fit in for a euthanasia appointment. The receptionist who called me back the next day said "Hi, uh, so I'm returning a phone call." I said through tears that my dog had passed away during the night and I did not need an appointment any longer. The woman said "Oh. Okay. Thank you!" in a cheerful tone. I'm surprised she didn't tell me to "Have a great day" before I hung up on her. Didn't even care to ask about my poor dog at all when she returned my call or show any empathy when I said that he had died already.
Dr. Dunbar was informative and helpful with my new puppy vaccinations. Would absolutely recommend.

Great experience my dog never comes out stressed or sad in any way he's always happy to go there.
I know it's covid times, but to have a window service to deal with clients makes for a difficult transaction. That and the fact that a train rolls by 100 feet away and you literally have to wait till it's gone before you can hear the clerk behind the plastic window. The staff here are really nice and they handled my dog very professionally. And again, probably because it is covid, my appointment was pushed back 40 minutes before i got my dog in. I'd have a tough time giving this place a higher rating, because I know they are trying to make it a great business, but the things going against them make it just an ok place to visit for service.
There is a certain type of people who work in vet clinics and hospitals, which is why our pets are so well cared for. And Portage Vet Hospital is no exception. Incredibly friendly and welcoming. They take exceptional care of the animals brought to the clinic. Equally important, they display genuine empathy to the owners and understand what it means to work through pet challenges. Wonderful experience here, every time.
I took my dogs here for their yearly shots, they were attentive and spoke about my one dog's possible thyroid problems and talked to me about it in regular people terms which made it easy to understand.
