Stuck between a 3 & 4 star, because the gluten filled crab meat is set open and uncovered next to all other condiments and toppings. I’m told that all other ingredients are Gluten Free, but this high possibility of cross contact of a gluten filled item makes it unsafe for a person with Celiac Disease. All food items are nestled VERY close to each other and as I watched the server, there indeed was dropping of other toppings into other ingredients. My non-Celiac child did end up eating there, but I did not feel completely safe doing so. That’s my reason for rating cross contact. I was told over phone that it’s safe, after seeing this in person, I will say it is not safe. My non Celiac child did enjoy her meal. The floors were dirty and the table tops. seating was provided outside. There’s a nice view of the street and surrounding stores. Cute neighborhood. Decent parking. *edit* While I understand that this business may take heart to this and has been in a way “vetted” by Celiac Scene, I am standing in my truth in what I experienced when we visited this site. The employee did NOT bring bowl to/near the ingredients and serve as mentioned by employee in response of this review. There in fact are gluten filled ingredients in this facility, making it not fully a 100% GF/ no cross contact facility. I would ONLY say it is. 100% GF and no CC facility if it in fact was—- but this is not so far. There was spilling over of toppings into other food containers. That’s why I gave 3 stars, lack of one star because of the cross contact NOT cross contamination, as mentioned in response by employee in review. Just some education for the difference between “cross contact” and “cross contamination”… Cross contamination deals with salmonella and “cross contact” deals with gluten filled food items touching other food items that have no gluten. The lack of the 2nd star is because of lack of cleanliness of the business. I’m sorry this was taken as a sort of attack and I can understand why you want me to email, but this is still my experience and my review of facts that occurred. I posted my review as a hope that it’s resolved, not as a way that you can or should feel attacked and want to rebuttal in any way. I will not be emailing you, as all information is available in my review and it’s either worked on or not. And my review was also really to get you to look into moving those gluten filled items completely away from other items. This is a possibility and can be done. Sorry that you read it any other way than a resolution or learning point. - someone who has Celiac Disease and takes it a bit more seriously. Because anyone who can relate, also understands that “having no incidents doesn’t aways mean that there haven’t been any. And having even 1 incident, lasts soooo long to get back to healthy and trusting a vetted business who seeks resolution and improvements.
Rounded up, but if I could give 2.5 - that would be more fitting. I rounded up because I really liked the service and the gal at the counter was great. The place is cute and was playing a modern pop/contemporary music track that I quite liked over the generic background music other places have. The toppings selection was quite big, and the freshness was so-so. The protein offerings themselves were only okay, and I might be being a bit generous. I tried the Sockeye Salmon and the Ahi Tuna, as well as the Garlic Shrimp. They were all a little soggy and chewy instead of a melt in your mouth sort of taste. I would consider trying again, but likely will stick to my other favourite Poké options locally.
Best Poke in town! Staff are always friendly and food is as fresh as it can be. PS. Hawaiian bowl is a go to.
Good staff makes the difference between a happy and unhappy customer. Placed an online order today but the system was down and order disappeared; no worries it happens. The rep was very apologetic and quickly redid my order again even though I’m sure she was quite busy with other orders and offering extras for free; made up for the inconvenience. The food itself was a hidden gem. Everything was super fresh and flavours balanced nicely. Portions were generous, enough to have the other half for dinner. Thus the value you get is amazing. I will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu, well done.
Best Poke bowl I’ve had!! So fresh, delicious and huge variety of toppings. Staff so nice, friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!
Part 1 The food was great. I would certainly go again. Fresh and friendly service. The only feedback is that the employees seem a little unsure of themselves...training, new on the job. It would be better if you quickly walk the customer through the build the bowl steps and move the line through faster. Other than that best Poke Bowl so far. Part 2 Oct 12 Great again. The staff needs training still same...a little unsure. Otherwise pleasant and welcoming.
Nice and friendly staff. The poke bowls we had were below average. There was quite little of fish and too much veggies. The white rice we had tasted weird they ran out of white rice after our orders so I guess the rice at the bottom of the pot isn’t good. The only positive feeling was we felt healthy.
Visited here with my husband and teenage daughter. Super fresh, super tasty and beautifully presented. Aviv, the owner, was informative and gracious. Our daughter loved the food so we'll be back!!
Tasty bowls, always! I wish I took a pic of my rainbow art but it was delish to wait! Great service and always freshFood: 5/5
Poke Fresh is the best Poke spot on Vancouver Island. The staff are super friendly and attentive and the food is incredibly Fresh. I usually go with a Custom Poke bowl with extra tuna for only $1.50 more. The portions are huge to a point that my take away lid could barely close. You should go.
