This restaurant only takes cash, so be prepared to bring some cash before you came. It's hard to justify how authentic or how good the foods are because I am not from Poland. But overall, the staff was friendly, the cuisines were all great except for the dumpling probably just did not fit our taste. The sausage and the soup were amazing!!
Go here! This is the perfect old school Polish Restaurant. Everything was perfection. It was a bit out of our way but 100% worth it. We let the owner just bring us a bit of everything and some homemade juice. Well, everything there is homemade.
Visiting from out of town with a strong Polish heritage. A trip.back in time to a mom and pop polish community eatery. Food was authentic! Pierogies, potato pancakes, kielbasa. Cabbage soup I could eat all day! Do not hesitate to walk in the door. Greeted immediately by the owner when we walked in the door. Explained the menu and the "must haves" of your not familiar with Polish food. I am so happy that we went. Parking is an issue, but welcome to the city. If and when I come back, I will make it a point to eat here again. Great way to end my stay in Chicago!
I walked in to a place that looked as though it were a neighborhood staple. Turns out it was. Being new I was led through the "cash only, homemade juice on the house and you have to try some soup," thing. Everyone else knew everyone's name..kinda Cheers without booze on the way out I was asked to come back when in the neighborhood and bring my own booze. I had some incredible cabbage soup w shredded chicken a nice slice of crusty bread and grilled sausage for $11. It's not extremely easy to find yet well worth it. Features: No protocols in place.
Delicious, traditional, stick-to-your-ribs Polish food. It tastes just like grandma used to make, if you were lucky enough to have that sort of grandma. Everything is served with a basket of fresh, crusty bread and excellent service. We tried the beef stew, golabki, pierogi, and potato pancakes and everyone ate until they were stuffed and still had leftovers to take home!. As other reviews have mentioned, they’re cash only, but there’s an ATM at the CVS across the street. I’ll be back ASAP to try the soup on a day that isn’t nearly 100 degrees
Soooo tasty and honest and home style. I felt like I was in Nanas house again. Pickle soup was really good, and the stuffed cabbage was a playful yet mysterious little dish. It feels very light but was quite filling. Perogis are good for “stick to your ribs” winter cooking, and we’re looking forward to trying out breakfast. Remember to be polite and patient, bring cash, and don’t show up at 6:50 on a Sunday when they close at 7. Nana needs to go to bed! Grandfather approved for tastiness and authenticity. A hidden gem, wow.
A quick lunch on our way to the airport today! Our meal was amazing- pierogies, potato pancakes, cabbage soup, and kielbasa. Absolutely wonderful!! All homemade! Definitely felt like I was eating at someone’s home with their grandparents cooking in the kitchen. We took food to go home- on the plane- to eat some for Brunch tomorrow and freeze the remainder! We will return and direct our local friends and family to this restaurant!
Do you want authentic Polish food that hasn't been compromised since the 70s? This place is it. Let the owner pick your dishes for extra home style experience.
Reasonable priced home cooked Polish comfort food. Full dinner with salad and soup for $22 is pretty good. Don’t get fooled by the looks. It’s hadn’t changed over the years. Glad this gem survived. Ordered PIECZEN WIEPRZOWA - roast pork, with potatoes and gravy, beet salad which had a twist, shredded beets and horseradish had a little kick and the ZUREK - sour borscht soup.
Stopped in from out of town- quiet, felt authentic. Older woman served us up some Amazingly good soup. Not all menu items were available, and she only took cash- atm at cvs across the street.Recommended dishesSoups, Cabbage Soup
