Poco Place Dental Centre

I have been a patient at Poco Place Dental for the past 10+ years. All the staff are very friendly and caring. Very pleased with all my cleaning and dental work done here. Dr. Lau is my doctor and is always very welcoming and professional. Highly recommend this clinic for any dental needs!

Dr Lau has been my desist form many years. At first he was great but in the past few years things have changed. I was told that I have to do all my "cavities" before being allowed to get my wisdom teeth out. Once I got them done I asked for an appointment for the removal of my wisdom teeth. They claimed they were so busy and that I had to wait 6 months. I waited so long that my teeth stared to move. I had my braces done here and Dr Lau knew that my teeth will move if I did not get my wisdom teeth out on time. So some of my teeth did end up moving. Since getting my cavities done I have had a few crack and have had do go get them redone. Dr. Lau did not do my fillings but one of the dentist which is from the centre and he did a very poor job. I did not chose the densit Dr. Lau chose who did my fillings. I let Dr Lau know that my teeth were in pain but he claimed that they were fine until I told him that I got a second opinion which proved that the job was poorly done and the filling was cracking. So at the end of the day I have lots of filling which were not needed to be done. I have poorly done fillings and I have shifted teeth even though I spend thousands of dollars. If I could give 0 stars I would!

The staff are friendly and the dental work they do seems to be professional and well-done. The biggest problem I had was their use of the Diagnadent, which is a machine they claim is very accurate in finding cavities. Before I visited Poco Place Dental Centre, I had never had a cavity in my 30 years of life. I thought I was just going in for a regular cleaning when they told me I had 7 cavities according to this machine but not from normal examination. Obviously, you feel like you should trust a professional, so I had 3 of them filled that day. When I went home and researched the Diagnadent, I found that the machine gives a lot of false positives ie. tells you there are cavities when there are not and can't be used solely to find cavities. I went to my regular dentist for a second opinion and was told that the other 4 cavities they had told me about were just stains/natural grooves in my teeth. This was a year ago. I didn't fill any of those other supposed cavities and I haven't had a problem since. I now feel like Poco Dental Centre unnecessarily drilled my teeth and charged me for it. : I guess they would be good if you want a more aggressive approach, but I will not be going back as I don't fully trust them. I was also told to book with the same dentist as different dentists have different approaches. I always thought a cavity is a cavity is a cavity, but apparently it depends on what dentist you go to. If you're looking for a dentist here, make sure you find one that has a treatment approach you can agree with. I can only speak of my experience with one particular dentist at this clinic, so I can't say all of these dentists have the same aggressive approach. I'm just saying to be careful and do your research. If you're in doubt, get a second opinion. I definitely prefer a more conservative dentist and will stick to one elsewhere that I can trust.

Since my time at this dental clinic, the doctors have come and gone and although initially I was happy with their service, I am ultimately dissatisfied with the work of Dr Michael Lau. I got my dental implant done here with Dr Lau. Everything seemed okay at first but the rod that he used for my implant was left exposed making it easy for infection to build up. This eventually led to bone loss, which he attempted to rebuild by adding more bone material twice and both times failed. However, it wasn't until I saw a specialist a periodontist who explained to me that no matter how much bone the doctor added, it would never be successful because once the rod is infected, it's nearly impossible for the area to be clean or for bone to be absorbed.... So either doctor Lau doesn't know this or he knew but saw an opportunity to charge extra money. I also found out that the techniques and materials Dr Lau used were not the best. The specialist I have now is doing advanced procedures which I doubt Dr Lau is capable of doing.... had I known all of this before, I would've gone to a specialist and pay more to have a job well done. Because in the long run, it was more expensive going with Dr Lau. My recommendation is for others to save their money and invest in a better doctor. As for customer service, I've never had any issues, although I am often called to be rescheduled for another date which is somewhat annoying. I miss the old doctors who used to work there and the old receptionist who unfortunately passed away.

I can say with absolute confidence that Dr. Lau puts a lot of time and effort in taking great care of his patient’s teeth. When he takes care of his patients, he is not just concerned with short term conditions, he wants to make sure that his patient’s teeth remain healthy in the future. Dr. Lau really takes care of his patients with great accuracy and timeless care. I would never hesitate to recommend Dr. Lau to any patient.

I have been dr.Lau's patient for well over 10 years.His staff is genuine and very professional. Office is always spotless and they go above and beyond to look after their patients. I have moved away now but will drive an hour each way to use their service.Front desk staff works so hard to keep us all organize and billing in order.Location is very convenient and accessible. I cant say enough about hygenest Sarah Ann who has made her mission to give you cleanest mouth on west coast. I highly recommend this business!

Awesome service and great follow up, confirmation of appointments are quick and simple. The dentists and hygienist are professional and caring; they ask the right questions to ensure the patient is taken care of.

I've had everything from getting fillings and cleanings done to getting my braces, as well as having my wisdom teeth removed here. Welcoming receptionist staff and accomplished dental team!

I have been a costumer here for many years. I have been having problems with my teeth ever since I have come to this dental center. The people here are rude and getting a appointment is very stressful. I do not recommend!
