Navigating flavors in tea or coffee is often akin to charting a course in the skies – each sip is an exploration of taste. When commandeered by the right pilot or barista, both journeys are utterly enjoyable. My visit to Pilot Coffee Roasters 114 King St S, Waterloo, ON N2J 1P5 provided me with the opportunity to navigate a great beverage. With over 10 locations across Southern Ontario, Pilot Coffee has earned several accolades for their in-house tea leaf and coffee-bean business, along with their state-of-the-art equipment supply, and most importantly, their delicious beverages! Their location in Uptown Waterloo made me realize why they were so popular all across the province - a quiet location that was great to study at with friends, the café was the perfect blend of modern and cozy. Onto what I ordered! Hoping for a light beverage after work, I got the honey chai latte. A velvety, amber-hued drink that blended a robust black tea with warming spices including cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves, and the delicate sweetness of honey, the drink was utterly delicious. Despite being slightly watery, the cup of tea was utterly comforting and helped soothe my nerves after a busy work day. The service provided by the staff made the experience even better - quick service and friendly conversation made the vibe even more amazing than it already was. With locations across Downtown Toronto, Oakville, Richmond Hill, and Waterloo, Pilot Coffee Roasters is deservedly making its way across town with delicious beverages and a great aesthetic. Definitely keep an eye out for a store opening in your location too. Highly recommended! To hear about this review, follow us @eatinontario on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
Ok I really don’t understand going to Starbucks across the street when this little gem is right here. The coffee is dark and smooth and the milk is foamed perfectly. Will definitely make this a regular stop! I tried the pumpkin carrot coconut muffin, interesting mix. Dietary restrictions: They have dairy free milks
Great atmosphere to work. It gets tons of natural light and is super modern. Sometimes hard to find a seat as it’s super full. The service is amazing. Lateeshia and the other girl working there were great at helping me with options and didn’t judge my lack of decision making abilities hah! I would love to come back again. Decent coffee. Its not amazing but with the price point it makes sense. Wasn’t a fan of the nitro brew. It is too acidic and tastes weird. The vanilla sweetener is amazing!
I got an iced matcha latte and cappuccino. Both tasted pretty good. Neat and new cafe in Waterloo. Friendly staff, Will visit again.
I have tried only coffee to go. Love it. Love the design and people that work their. But I wish it would be cleaner inside as the design is so good but the dirty floor makes it looks clumsy.Service: 5/5
This cafe offers truly exceptional coffee and friendly service. The light roast recommend by the barista was one of the best tasting coffee I’ve ever tasted. Also loved the simple and minimalistic interior design. Overall an amazing experience and I will definitely visit again!
My girlfriend and I enjoyed a coffee and a cookie on the patio! Amazing latte and service. Overall, I’d I highly suggest this shop. The aesthetic is awesome!Food: 5/5
Staff are very lovely and friendly. Small, but simple menu with daily baked snacks gluten-free options too!. I wish there was slightly more cozy seating, but otherwise it's a small shop with a nice and clean vibe.Food: 5/5
Tried for the first time today. Got an Americano and a latte. They were both good coffees. Very strong but smooth without the bitterness that you sometimes get from the Starbucks across the street. The decor is very modern; almost sanitized. All hard surfaces that are white, or stainless steel. Personally, I prefer soft, cozy and inviting but the coffee is good. We didn’t stay to drink it there anyway. They seem to have a nice selection of sweet treats.
I'm a huge proponent of shopping locally and am really pleased that there is another not-so-corporate coffee shop in uptown Waterloo. But, I'm not going to be going back. I had three concerns: Sadly the coffee beans in my espresso based drink were way to green for me. I know the trend is to light roast but I really don't like the taste. If there was a dark roast option, it wasn't offered to me. Then there was the noise in the place... There were 9 patrons in the store when I was there and the chatter of those people talking made it very uncomfortably loud. They went for a modern look and neglected to have a single soft furnishing to absorb the noise. My third concern is about the service. I stood in front of a till under the menu board for at least 3 minutes before any of the staff made eye contact with me. Two of them were busy but the third was loitering. Then when someone did notice me, she made me feel foolish by making a thing about using a different till. It's obviously just not a place for a guy that is over 50. Too bad.
