This is one of the few Vietnamese/Asian restaurants in Ottawa that have a patio kanata noodle house nearby also had one. The bonus of this restaurant is that they serve a variety of Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai dishes. The Chinese chicken and broccoli over rice was delicious, the crispy beef dish was good also but a bit too sweet for my tastes. We also ordered Vietnamese ice coffee and that is why I'm taking off one star; this was not the usual authentic drip coffee, it is the 3 in 1 instant coffee with a pungent aftertaste... I hate this specific coffee brand. Going to a restaurant to order this coffee is usually a joy and no other Vietnamese restaurant I've been to in Ottawa has done this shortcut.
On our last trip to Phu Yen, a huge worm was sautéed in the Pad Thai. A worm being in the vegetables, and then getting sautéed should not happen. It can happen. How the staff was fairly dismissive about that is what was the real let down.
I came here with some work colleagues for lunch and the food was pretty good, portion sizes were fair, and came out fairly quickly. If only it all came out at the same time, that would make it a lot better. Overall, we liked coming here.Food: 4/5
Phu-Yen is my new fave now. Their sweet and sour pork is better now than the first time we had it. And yes, it was excellent. Also, the Szechuan chicken is tasty -- first time I had it and it's a yes for me. Chicken fried rice too is definitely a YES. They gave us free steamed rice too. They're a lil pricier than the previous restau that we used to go BUT the serving size is worth the price. Overall, gustatory rate is 5 , presentation is 5 , freshness of food is 5 , value of money is 5 , staff is 5 very polite. P.S. you nailed the sweet and sour pork this time just how I like it. Thank you Phu-Yen. Will be ordering soon.
Very disappointed with both dishes we ordered. The food was very bland and the servings were small considering the price. I ordered the Spicy Beef Soup, but it was not spicy whatsoever, and felt like it was missing flavouring. Soup was bland and the beef was unseasoned and you only received two thin slices. It was mostly noodles. Very disappointed.

The Phu-Yen Restaurant serves Vietnamese and Chinese Food. Please note: Covid 19 Protocols in place here. Stoped in for lunch today, my Niece and I had the Pho Noodle Soup with rare beef Bean Sprouts and Basil we added siracha hot sauce. It was so good, I want more lol. I also had some Chinese Food, Egg Rolls- Chicken Fried Rice Almond Guy Ding and sweet and sour chicken balls. Everything was absolutely delicious very hot and fresh ingredients. We are outside today as it was beautiful out. You can dine in, the decor is nice the staff very friendly. Clean washrooms. I can't wait to go back and try some different dishes, I know I won't be disappointed. Cheers!
Their dishes were terribly bland and very cheaply prepared dishes. Hardly any meat - adding onions and cheap vegetables as filler. It is a sad state of affairs when no one could even identify which two dishes were the General Tao. I called to complain about the portions and oh yes the manager was going to call me back to discuss my concerns—no call back - NEVER AGAIN! I’ll drive to China Town next time if this is what is considered authentic Chinese takeout! No consideration for clientele ordering a big family meal and not even a call back - We’ll never recommend or get food here again - not worth the money - don’t waste your time —-very disappointed!
I honestly don’t think I have ever written a Google review but this one definitely deserves one. My family have been going here for five years now and it’s always amazing and consistent. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t already.
Good lunch restaurant with many good choices in the menu. The food is fresh and tasty, the service is good and pleasant. The specific is Vietnamese but at least one third of the choices in the menu are chinese. Prices quite decent. The look is a little bit old but it kind of integrate with the specific.
