Went to O'Neill CVI for grade 11 and 12 when I moved to Canada 5 years ago. Great teachers and great building with full of history. Reason for a 4 star is because, there is no guidance or whatsoever for international students or newcomers to Canada to adjust to the Canadian high school. I wish they give us more guidance, introduction or help adjust to the school, environment and other students instead of just throwing us in the system and thinking we can adjust by ourselves. I find it hard to make friends, adjusting to a new country, school, courses and pretty much new everything is not easy. Everyone has been buddies pretty much since pre-school lol. International students would just hang out with other international students, or their siblings or just by themselves. They have a ESL course that is necessary for all international students, it's pretty much a class for all international students from grade 9 to 12. This class "introduce" us to Canada and its culture instead of the school. The teacher said we could come and talk to them anytime if we have problems in school, I did once but she waved me off and send me to a guidance counselor who is not helpful at all so I just left and never talked to them again other than for academic topics.
Overall, very great school. Met a lot of amazing people, threw a decent party in the bathroom on the last day of school June 21, 2022 but got stopped by Mr Lynch lol
Its not so bad it just depends on who your teacher is
In peelers clothing class rn for 10th grade and I like the school I love the building but the staff can be rude at times
Amazing school. I spent grades 9 through 11 here, and the teachers here have impacted my life in a way that I will never forget. Music has and will forever be a huge part of my life, and the music teachers here helped keep that something that kept me from losing sight of what I wanted to do with my life.
It's a great school if you know what your getting into first, would recommend!
It's littarly all the Ohio memes put into one building
The school is one of the better ones in the Durham Region and is definitely the school to go to if you're in the arts. Overall, the faculty are a nice bunch and are willing to help you succeed and it's generally a nice environment. There are some problems, such as favouritism to students in the arts programs and some of the cafeteria food being lackluster, but the positives outweigh the negatives in my opinion. The school may be a little different now as I graduated 4 years ago, but that is my experience with O'Neill CVI.
Mr. Leich if you’re reading this: I moved back to The Netherlands and currently am pursuing a career as an English teacher because you told me I’d make a good teacher. You rock, and I’ll never forgot the awesome history lessons you taught in 2014-2015!
The school is very acepting of LGBTQ+ students. The GSA is super friendly, as well as the students and staff. At the beginning of this year we were givin "Introduction sheets" where you wrote your name, preferred name, pronouns and things you looked forward to in high school. Over all great school
