Oh my, not as advertised! Quaint spot, friendly staff but not at all fresh or authentic. Rice overcooked. Pineapple sweet and sour chicken was pre-made and not heated through enough before serving. Hot and sour soup one of my all time favorite soups, ever was neither hot nor sour. I asked for red vinegar to try and salvage it but not even that could save it. Could not eat more than two spoon fulls. They were kind enough not to charge me for it though. The spring rolls were not "authentic" nor were they made in house. They were a pre-made frozen bulk item that was not heated through enough before serving. Could not finish this item either. I am from Vancouver and Richmond BC where I am used to truly authentic Chinese food tripe, beef tendon, jellyfish, etc. and dishes from every corner of that continent. If you missed going to the grocery store to pick up some frozen chinese meal, then you can always go to Oriental Palace as a distant second choice.
After trying 2 other restaurants that were closed, we found this one. It was very family-friendly. They gave us tons of delicious food but they did warn us we'd have leftovers. They gave us boxes to take the rest home. The ginger beef was crispy and wasn't spicy like the menu indicated, which was a pleasant surprise for us. The staff was friendly and prompt. The food came out really quick and was hot. The chicken fried rice was made with good chunks of moist chicken, not just the dry leftover bits. The Shanghai noodles were yummy. The lemon chicken was crispy and the sauce was flavorful. If you have 8 or more people, the gratuity is 15 percent. My only criticism is that the sink in the women's bathroom didn't fully turn on. That's it!
Wife and I have been coming here for about 15 years whenever we are in the Valley. Has changed owners a couple of times but the food has remained the same high quality. This is a Western Chinese Food restaurant that does a great job so do not expect authentic Chinese Food. My wife who is Asian loves the food just as much as I do, but we understand what we are getting when you come to the Valley. The ginger chicken and soy sauce chow mein was delicious. I have had the sweet and sour pork, deep fried prawns and fried rice in the past and they were all delicious.
Save your money and go elsewhere. Service was faster than your typical fastfood restaurant. Food didn't taste authentic, nor was it fresh. Wondering if unsold buffet items were being served. Noodles tasted bland. There was nothing "fried" about the fried rice; just tossed some carrot and green peas to the steamed rice, that's it, not even any soy sauce. Friendly staff, however, very disapppointing and overpriced food!
We couldn't find another place open at 8 and ended up being super surprised by this little gem ! Great service, really great prices and food that brings me back. This is an old school Chinese Canadian restaurant. The interior, exterior and dishes have remained unchanged for atleast 15 years and I like it that way! They have a great meal for one or deluxe meal which requires atleast 2 people for 18.95 per person. The selection of dishes is great and you get a full order of chicken fried rice as well as a great portion of wonton soup OR a big honking spring roll. We got the schezuan beef, cashew chicken and the soy sauce chow mein. All were great ! The beef had just enough spice for me, but not too much for my grandma. The chicken was juicy and had a good ratio of veggies and the chow mein tied it all together ! We had lots of leftovers and I really look forward to my leftovers tomorrow ! If you're passing through, getting off work late or staying at fairmont hot springs and get a hankering for good chinese food, this is a great spot :
The food exactly like another customer said "The gingerbeef was soggy, the sweet & sour sauce is lumpy and chicken fried rice was dried out and flavorless", The waitress is unprofessional and acting weird. Done with this place too.
Portion sizes are great here see photos. Food is flavourful, though doesn’t seem very fresh and the sauce is pretty syrupy. I’ll eat here again if I’m craving Chinese food in the valley, but won’t make a point to stop by every time I’m in the area.
Sweet&Sour Chicken balls, Lemon Chicken, Chicken Fried rice, Chicken in Black Bean sauce, Soggy, tasteless, deep fried batter with miniscule pieces of meat, rice was dry with no flavor, Black bean Chicken was tasteless steamed veggies, felt sick for hours after, will never go back, never, I mean never.
First time coming here last July 2022. Food here is good enough that my family came home so full. The servings are big maybe 2-3 persons per plate or we just didn't know that we ordered a serving that big!!. We ordered beef curry, beef & broccoli, fried rice there's chopped meat and vege added to it that it can be eaten alone, delicious!, fried wings and chicken strips, and others I can't remember. We did not finish, so the rest is a take out. The lady doing all around is nice cashier, order taker, server. The guy working in the back is a little... I don't know, maybe he's tired that's why he is not that approachable! Anyway, the place is clean, the food is good, good for group orders, not that hard to find in Invermere, parking is free.
Old food from Buffett and ginger beef like Jerky. Rice was hard. When called to talk to manager server had no ideal when to call back and if there was a supervisor. Will will NOT BE BACK.
