We came here tonight to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. I fell in love On the Bayou. The food was beyond delicious! The best Shrimp and Grits and Seafood Gumbo I've ever had. The service was excellent! The owner came to check on us and everything. It was an awesome experience.Dine in: YesDelivery: Yes
We ordered to go and it was great!! The food had great flavor!! We had the fried Catfish and shrimp dinner and the fried Catfish and grits dinner. We plan to order again or go inside to eat!
Absolutely delicious food! Hospitality from the was awesome! Friends and I came from Toronto, Canada for a convention and decided to visit "On the Bayou" for food and was amazed by the quality and taste. The Catfish and grits was delicious and was cooked perfectly. We also had the Seafood gumbo which was just amazing as well as the restaurant special Seafood poutine with crawfish and scallops. If you're in the Milwaukee area please pay "On The Bayou" for a genuine taste and experience of Creole/Cajun food
I plan to go to New Orleans this fall so I went to the Taste Of New Orleans at the full entertainment venue at On The Bayou. If New Orleans cuisine is half as good as On The Bayou I am in for an amazing trip. The food is tasty filling and a proud representation of New Orleans. The Cuisine Tasting Menu featured Shrimp and Grits. The grits were slightly firm the way I like it with a great combo of spices with me you can never go wrong with shrimp or grits. I also had the Cajun Cocktail Shrimp, Crawfish Etouffee, Bourbon St. Steak Kebobs, Deep Fried Steak Kebobs, Deep Fried Salmon Bites, Blackened Catfish deboned, Mardi Gras Veggie Wings all veggie including squash. What an amazing experience. I love station-style dining. Even the pre-music brought me back to the times of the Commadors, Keith Sweat and other R&B legends. The highlight of the evening was Chris Crain and Mels Spears. They are chemistry at it's finest. I heard they are on YouTube and 98.3 FM. It is so nice that I had an uplifting evening and cannot wait to come back to On The Bayou. Be safe and I will see you there.
Came here 12/23 for our Anniversary & my 25th bday . Absolutely loved it! Food was amazing , as well as the drinks! The vibe of the restaurant is very calming , nice music .. and set up , and of course customer service was outstanding! Definitely will be back!!!
Disappointed. Limited menu. Was told signature dish-shrimp n grits weren't available because they had no grits. Fried green tomatoes were tasteless and not breaded well. After hearing so many good reviews sadly my experience wasn't.
The atmosphere is so calming and welcoming. Everyone there treated me as family and I’m so excited of the things that they have planned for the restaurant and I will be back and bringing others. The seafood gumbo was so savory the consistency in the brew was amazing the shrimp were large and clean I was more than satisfied. I also enjoyed their Hurricane and a tequila sunrise and I was buzzed and satisfied! I can’t wait to come and experience more from On the bayou!
I had the pleasure to share my birthday dinner with some great friends and the wonderful, caring staff at On the Bayou. Even though it was not on the menu Janice and Greg were more than willing to accommodate my request for a Creole style crawfish boil for me and my guests. In terms of the food, there was nothing that didn't exceed my expectations. We had the poutine as an appetizer which stacked up well against other poutines I've had. The cheese on the poutine was fried with corn and we enjoyed those cheese-corn bites so much we ordered another, separate order of just them. Dare I say I enjoyed them more than standard Wisconsin cheese curds? The main crawfish dish came out hot and delicious. Compared to other crawfish I've had these were slightly less fresh, but cooked better - to perfection. Its safe to say the chef knew exactly what they were doing. Obviously it is a lot more difficult to get super fresh crawfish in Milwaukee than say, New Orleans so I really can't take that away from the kitchen staff, especially since it was off menu. As far as drinks go, the wait staff greeted us with a Louisiana Hurricane we had little say in the matter, lol. The drink was too sweet for my taste, but I feel as though that is authentic as this was a southern-style diner. Sweet tea, anyone? Nonetheless, I finished the drink. Once Walter our waiter found out it was my birthday he brought me a nice pour of whiskey, and I nursed that throughout the rest of the meal. Ambiance in the restaurant was set really nicely. Murals of Bourbon Street were set inside actual windows from New Orleans complete with faux balconies that gave the dining room a very Mardi Gras feel. The group could feel the care that the owners put into the place. Upon getting ready to leave I'm pretty sure the entire restaurant staff came out to say goodbye. It was the most genuine display of Southern hospitality I've ever experienced. From when we stood up to leave until when we finally left I'd say it was about 30 minutes. They walked us out the door and continued chatting with us on the sidewalk, I really felt like they enjoyed having us there. The price was fair. Split 6 ways the drinks, appetizers, and food came to ~$50 per person. It was the highlight of the night dining at On the Bayou, I can't wait to go back!
Great cajun food. Especially impressed by their vegetarian options, which are wider and more interesting than you'd expect for such a meat and seafood based cuisine. Traditional options are also good - great flavor on the shrimp and grits and the jambalaya. Service can be slow but it's always friendly and knowledgeable.
Hands down one of the most inviting restaurants that I have attended. It's so beautiful clean and comfortable you don't want to leave The icing on the cake is the food is amazingRecommended dishesSeafood Gumbo, Jumbo Shrimp & Grits, Seafood
