Story

Okanagan Equine Veterinary Services was established in 1983 by Dr. Sheila McDonald, the first equine only practice in the B.C. interior. In October of 2007 Okanagan Equine moved to 4656 Wallace Hill Road in Southeast Kelowna. The new facilities are located on a beautiful 13 acre farm with plenty of room to offer a wide range of services. Facility The 6500 square foot clinic includes a full surgery suite, induction and recovery room, laboratory, pharmacy, standing surgery and treatment room, a fully equipped breeding laboratory, and seven hospital stalls. Attached to the clinic is a 75' by 150' indoor arena in which there are six more stalls, a stallion collection area, and an area for riding or for carrying out lameness or prepurchase exams. Upstairs are offices, a washroom, and a large seminar room with a viewing window into the surgery. The clinic is equipped for both conventional and digital X-rays, with a digital imaging center and onscreen diagnostics. The outdoor facilities include a round pen, a large outdoor grass riding area, and various sizes of fields and paddocks. A separate reception building houses the business offices and a staff kitchen. With the extensive new facilities more complex surgeries, medical diagnostics and treatment can be performed. In addition, a wide range of reproductive services is offered, such as the freezing of semen and high risk foaling. Horses which require rehabilitation following surgery or injury may be boarded at the farm, where a carefully monitored program is provided under direct veterinary supervision.

When you own 20+ horses you need a great team of veterinarians and Okanagan Equine Vet Services always come through for us. They have the knowledge, expertise and equipment to take care of all of our equine needs and we really appreciate the time they take just to casually chat with us and share advice.
Thanks Dr. Looper, you were excellent and thorough with explaining what you were doing for my horses and very good with them. They are happily munching their breakfast today, thanks to you! Great job!
Tara came out to help our Albert with his teeth; thank you for being so gentle with him. We also stopped in one weekend when one of our horses was having some problems and we were helped without hesitation - Tara was called and she gave some instructions over the phone. Thank you to everyone who works here, you have all been so helpful!!
Dr. MacDonald is the equine vet that all of us long time horse owners appreciate. Honest, extremely knowledgeable and always looking at what is new, compassionate, no-nonsense. I've experienced many vets through the years, she's one of the best !
Always take such good care if me a d my horses
Poor communication, poor execution of services. Was misled about charges. I’ve worked in the industry as a vet tech for over 13 years and was very disappointed with the experience.
Awful owner. She should treat her staff with respect.
DR. TROY LOOPER IS AMAZING ....GRACE SAYS THANK YOU
Beautiful place. Well trained staff, clean stalls
By far the best large animal vets in the valley
