Northern Heights Elementary School

As a former student teacher at this school, I am horrified by the institutional and blatant racism many of the staff here perpetuate. I experienced a lot of racism directed at me as a student teacher of color from the white staff at this building. I saw teachers recommend less successful white students for gifted education instead of better performing dark skinned brown and black students. When asked why, they respond with "I just can't see students like that fitting in that program.' I frequently heard racist comments from staff when parents or students weren't present, and saw teachers actively try to prevent struggling minority families from accessing resources. Any challenge to the narratives constructed by white people is met by a wall of white fragility and tears, where the white teachers get together and reaffirm each other that not only are they not being racist, but the problem is that black and brown people are calling them out. If you are middle class and have white kids here, you will do great. If your minority, especially with dark skin or an accent, know that you are being discriminated against on an institutional scale at this school.

This is the best school ever!I love it I was there from kindergarten to 5th grade.the teachers are awesome they accept you for who you are and the students are amazing!if your student is sent to this school they will fall in love with it

Teachers with integrity, an amazing PTA and it's an IB school. My daughter attended k-6 and another for just K. We were sad to move out of the city, and not be able to attend.

They have track meet for the 5th graders the teachers are nice not strict
