Building was designed for aesthetics and the new look rather than functionality. From what I've heard from staff and from personal experience it wasn't well designed. As old and run down as St. Joseph's was at least there was staff always at the front desk. There's a touch screen information computer at the front entrance as well but it doesn't work. Doesn't respond to touch and I'm not one of those people inept with using technology. It simply doesn't work. Signs are confusing with see someone at the GREEN DESK for check in for a specific procedure yet this section is all walled off along with the front desks. So you go to the Lab, which is the only other staff member at the front entrance area. To see them you have to take a number and wait. Just to ask where to go. Luckily I overheard someone asking my question otherwise I'd of been sitting there from #105 to #95 just to learn I was in the wrong place. Can't believe they don't staff the front desk.

Came into hospital with my entire mouth throbbing in pain. Could not even think was screaming in pain and in tears. There was no dentist open as it was the holidays so emergency was my only option. Waited 5 hours and was told upon arrival that they would give me something for the pain. Never did. Went up to desk twice asking for my medication and got dirty looks. Should of brought advil with me i guess. Not to mention all the staff drag their feet and stand around in circles talking to each other. Save your time because half of the doctors are so unprofessional.

The ER in this hospital is a joke my wife and I have been waiting nearly 5 hours while she is in serious pain. They wouldnt even give her medicine while she was waiting and we are still waiting I had been here once before and waited 4 hours but this is just horrible the staff is running around like they don't know what to do or just sitting around talking to each orher. They make such huge money but have all the time in the world to sit around putting there behind on top of the check in desk chit chatting how sanitary. Oh I guess I see now where my tax dollars are going.

Waiting forever for x-ray because nobody here has a clue what's going on or where anything is. Nobody here can give you any useful information. It's a nice looking hospital filled with retarded monkeys.

Not happy with our new North Island Hospital Courtenay. My 77 year old mother went into the hospital via ambulance last night, she fell and dislocated her shoulder and chipped her bone....they told her to go home and asked her to leave at 3am!! So I picked her up, she could barely stand... but they made her leave! What the heck are they thinking??
