A family favourite. No running water. Bathrooms could be better maintained. Stunning view. Great place to camp to beat the heat. All the firewood you can carry for free while camping. Playground: Small but fun and safe. Restrooms: Outhouse style, could be cleaned and monitored more frequently. Sanitizer was out. Dog-friendliness: Dogs on leash welcomed, lots of dogs Picnic area: Day area to go down and enjoy the water.
We tried the walk-in campground in North Ghost. First off, you have to drive around inside either of Loop 2 and Loop 4 to look for a campsite. When you’re decided, go back to the entrance and jot down your campsite #, basic info, cash or Visa card number then drop it on the mailbox. It is an unmanned campground, no stated time of arrival and departure we arrived at 11pm Friday and left the site 2pm Sunday, NO SERVICE/Signal, no drinking faucet only water pumps for cleaning, campsites have fire-pits and free fire woods, only a couple of public washroom per loop, with no sink or water. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at North Ghost because it will give you a close feeling to complete wilderness living with several hiking trails, a beautiful creek which is really nice for the summer heat, and No Curfew for the campfire! We didn’t see any campground rules for that. We will surely be back next time!
This was a fantastic campground! Very well maintained, and quiet. The free firewood was a huge plus, and was for the most part dry pine and spruce with a bit of popular. There are no showers, and only pit vault toilets, but they were very clean and new. The water pumps are all hand pumped. The sites for the most part are massive, and almost all are pull through spots. Though, if you are bringing an RV, the left side spots do not allow for your trailer to be facing your picnic tables or fire rings, unless you come the wrong direction down the road, which could pose a problem if it is busy. No ATV's burning through the campground, as they are not allowed. You can sometimes hear them in the distance, but it's quite faint. We stayed in loop 1, spot 10, which is only 50yards from the ridge overlooking the Waiparous Creek. The attendant was very friendly and helpful. There is a really nice little playground as you first go into the campground, and tons of trails to explore. There was a black bear sighted in the area, but I'd be more surprised if there wasn't one, as this is definitely bear country. No sanidump on site, but there is one very close on the 1A, at the Ghost RV and convience store just a bit north west of the turn off to the 40 hwy. Everyone had a great time, and we will definitely be going back.
Nice little campground with very clean bathrooms and firewood included. Sites are well sized and quite private. Short drive from home, we'll definitely be returning eventually. Updated: just returned from our second trip and it was even better than the first. Upped to 5 stars.
I take a camping trip for my birthday every year and this was the first year I decided not to go to kananaskis to lower lakes and instead we were going to try waiporus. It's a good thing we missed our turn and kept driving. North Ghost is now my absolute favorite place to camp! I loved the size of the sites and the view was spectacular. Far from the dirt bikes and atv trails that you hear constantly in waiporus. Only a 10 mins drive for cell phone service. River water was easy to collect and filter. The many trees keep most of the bad weather at bay but bring a big tarp because the thunderstorms in July and August can bring torrential downpours out of no where. Over all I rate this #2 on my list of favorite places to go in Alberta and highly recommend it to everyone. Over night fee is 30$ and firewood is completely free for campers. The wood is stocked every few days with dry seasoned poplar for the most part. Poplar has always been a favorite of mine as it burns long and hot with minimal popping embers and it smells amazing : Happy Camping Everyone
Clean, well maintained, decent sized lots to camp on. Lots to explore, tons of cool nature stuff you don't normally see like a mushroom growing out of bear poop!! The river is gorgeous, and the landscape is picture perfect! Definitely a great place to relax, unplug from everything, and enjoy the outdoors!
My best friends and family have been there many times. And for last fifteen 15. Or more years. Nothing but positive, and very great times always. Well looked after. We seem to always find a decent campsite. It's gorgeous, relaxing and alot of fun for everyone. And very nice to have the river close. Lots of water play and fun. My grandkids always want to go back... !!!
I went camping here last year and I loved it! I went back jeeping with a few friends on Saturday and everything covered in snow is more beautiful, I can’t wait for this year of camping!!!
Beautiful camping area .. loved this very mountainous campground
This place was very nice. It was well treed and had a fair amount of space between campgrounds. We didn't find much in the area to do other then ATV which we aren't into.
