North End Elementary School

My son was enrolled in the Autism Program at North End for his kindergarten year. His teacher and the school did an outstanding job of working with him. They were caring, communicative, and gave their hearts to working with their kids. Likewise, the new principal made it a point of checking in with me to see how my son was doing. My son did so well, he was transitioned into regular ed. for 1st Grade. Unfortunately, funding issues and a shortage of enrollment meant that classes needed to be combined. While this wasn't a problem for most of the kids, my son had trouble adapting to the change. Nor did it help that the school was in the process of switching over to a Boys and Girls Academy model. Eventually, we had to pull him out of North End and enroll him in another school in the district because all of the changes were too much for him. All that being said, the teachers and staff at North End are committed to their students. I interacted with them on a daily basis, and they work very hard to do the most they can with sometimes limited resources. The Autism Program is outstanding, and I was constantly impressed by the dedication and caring of the teachers and specialists who work with those kids.

I hate to be negative about any school but this is my daughters first year at North End and all I have witnessed is disorganization since day one - Total chaos 1st day and the extended day program has since started with no solid safety net for the kids not to get lost in the transition from reg. school hours to the after hours program - called extended day staff to discuss daughter showin up at home but should be at the school (thank goodness someone was home) - never got a call back! Also school work has not reflected the motto "future leaders" that I hear associated with the school's mission - would switch school's if could
