Norfolk General Hospital

I was in there briefly to visit to Norfolk General Hospital was decent. The staff I encountered were friendly, and the facility seemed clean. My friend mentioned having some nice doctors, although not all were as pleasant. A downside was only one elevator working.nParking is paid, but there is street parking available nearby if you prefer not to pay. I’ve heard mixed stories about the hospital, but my experience was alright overall.nEach day I would imagine can be different.nWe have to take it with stride. Am sure they do the best they can.

The labour and delivery unit at NGH is amazing. We had a great experience with Dr. Austen and all of the amazing nurses during delivery and postpartum. Midwife Juanita who is head of the department has gone above and beyond for us and our newborn. The care we have received has been top notch. I would never deliver anywhere else. A small hospital feel where all the nurses know you by name and truly care. I would recommend this hospital to anyone having a baby.

Make the drive to another hospital, this place should not be allowed to operate! Worst experience I’ve ever had. Would never go back. The abusive and neglectful treatment from nurses and the lack of accountability taken by the hospital administrator led to my checking myself out so that I could go to a different hospital for proper treatment. I had a severe colon infection and was told I may have to have part of my bowel removed. Stuck in a room with three other people I saw horrible things happen. The patients were afraid of the nurses. They wouldn’t answer call bells and patients would not get medications as needed. Myself included. The nurses would verbally abuse you and then not give you your pain meds as punishment. “Nurse T” should have her nurses license revoked. My family was so concerned they got in touch with the hospital administrator who did not care at all. The thought of having a major surgery there and being confined to a bed fully reliant on nurses who abuse and ignore patients was terrifying. I left. I was immediately driven to another hospital…still had the IV in my arm. Told them what had happened and was informed that they receive a lot of patients from Norfolk General with similar stories. They quickly got my patient record sent up, got me back on the antibiotics and everything through my IV and treated me like a person. Norfolk General is an absolute nightmare that should not be responsible for the care anyone in a vulnerable state.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank the ER staff who is looking after my mom. I was in yesterday and observed how seamlessly they worked together but also maintaining a proper and carling bedside manor. Well done and thank you.

Awful hospital, completely disorganized. Was in for a test at 10 am and it's 5:30pm and they still don't have results. Have to work in the morning so I have to leave and I'm sure they wont even call me with the results. Last time I tried to call back for results they tried to charge me $30. What is the difference from in person verbal and phone call verbal to charge $30. It just doesn't make sense. DO NOT COME HERE.
